I'm seeing people saying that Nintendo's doing this, they better not do whatever; but to my understanding, it's the Pokémon Company in control of this. Isn't it?

Mostly but Nintendo does have some control over the Pokemon Company. So we will see.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@Tsurii: According to the NintendoLife article there will be connectivity and Nintendo is actually developing the wrist accessory, which I am wondering if it will be mandatory or if Phone Notifications will work as well. I think Nintendo is pretty involved with the planning but maybe not the actual development of the software. We will see.

I just thought of a monetization method that might work... subscription. What if there was a new season every 3 months and in each season you could participate in special events. Lets say a Season is $20, maybe get 1 free season with the purchase of the watch thing. Maybe free users are able to catch common and uncommon Pokemon but for the rare and legendary ones you need to pay for the seasons and the events. Each season would include new common and uncommon Pokemon that Free users don't have access to until that Season is over. Just a thought. I think I would pay for that.

@DefHalan: Yeah, Nintendo, or more specifically Iwata, seems to be pretty involved in the planning. The Pokemon Company is definitely the main force behind the project. The way they had Miyamoto come on stage during the reveal conference and then almost immediately mentioning Iwata made it pretty clear that he had been working closely with TPC and Niantic on this project. Miyamoto seems determined to make sure the plans laid out by Iwata are carried out.
I've heard that this thing's been in development for a couple of years or so, and considering Iwata was involved with the planning, the micro-transactions will hopefully be reasonable enough without causing any kind of mini uproar.
The Australian Pokemon Go field test is here.
It's not reported by NintendoLife due to NL's extreme hatred of anything and everything Australian. But the few Australians here would be interested in this.
