DUN DUN DUUUUUN. Patcher Strikes again!

http://wiiudaily.com/2014/04/analyst-reggie-should-replace-iw...

Yep folks, it's that time of the month again! According to Michael Patcher, he believes Reggie would be a better fit as CEO for Nintendo but doesn't think it will happen due to Nintendo being a primarily Japenese based company. As you all know, Reggie has been somewhat of a celebrity and is largerly responsible for Nintendos success in the West. Introducing himself with: "My name is Reggie. I'm about kickin' ass, I'm about takin' names, and we're about makin' games." he's a stark contrast to the normally uptight and more buisness like nature of Nintendo. He helped drive the success with the Wii with his theatrical antics on stage and is a figure that people recognize. He obviously has an understanding of how to market to an American audience but is limited by the powers of the Japenese branch. So it begs the question: would Reggie be a better fit for CEO than Iwata?

Well....actually I agree with Patcher on this one.

Wait.

I agree with him?!?!

The wrath of god is upon us! Fire and brimstone are coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! You get the point.

Yes, I actually agree with Michael Patcher on this one. Or at least somewhat. I don't know what he's doing but Iwata as of late doesn't seem to know what he's even doing anymore. I have no idea what Nintendo is planning or what direction they're going in. There's no clear guidance and saying "Sorry, please understand" will only get you so far. Nintendo needs more Western influence. They need Reggie and his in your face attitude to grab gamers attention again. Perhaps he shouldn't replace Iwata but at the very least Reggie and Nintendo of America should be given a much bigger role in Nintendos buisness strategy. They should have more power than localization and have its own development team. Nintendo of Europe should be the same way. What Nintendo should aim for is global dominance and try to appeal to all regions they're present in. Staying a strictly Japenese oriented company is clearly not working. Something in Nintendo needs to change and I think this is the best solution.

But what do you all think? Would Reggie be a better fit as Nintendos leader? Or should Nintendos foreign branches simply have a bigger influence? Or is Nintendo fine as it is? Let the debate begin!

I thought Pachter's latest video was right on the mark. I dunno about Reggie taking over Nintendo, but now is not a good time to invest in Nintendo. I doubt Smash and Mario Kart will make enough of an impact to the investors. They are great games and they will push system sales, but not really enough to permanently turn around the Wii U's fortunes

It's hard to say for sure because you don't know how much his upper management is restricting him. I will say though that he came up with a good marketing campaign for Pizza Hut that helped make them popular. Example below:

Wikipedia also says that he was responsible for a 30% increase in ratings when he became Vice President of VH1.

This is interesting, since people like Adam Sessler say he should be fired too.

I found the video where Adam Sessler states his views. It's around 36:54 when he says all of Nintendo's upper management needs to go and they need "fresh thinking".

EDIT: A little before that, he states his views of the company.

@DanMan82 Wow. what a moron. If anything, Reggie is the only "fresh thinker" in the company right now. Honestly, I don't have the highest opinion of Sessler anyway. He's always been biased against Nintendo.

I don't think Reggie would really improve Nintendo's current state, the Wii U at this point is most likely going to remain a fail what Nintendo need to avoid is burning the people who have already brought the console by providing them with quality software till at least to 2016-17.

This I agree with.

@Jazzer94 Now why couldn't he? If given more authorization, he could really attempt the market to the core gamer market. He has the attitude and skills to be able to. Though I agree with Nintendo avoiding burning people who already own the console. I think that's what Nintendo will do for the time being. They can easily afford to.

I don't like the idea of Reggie as Iwata's replacement, he may have some charisma, but he seems to entrenched into Nintendo's current line of thinking.

I think Howard Lincoln from the 90s was a better head of NOA.

I pretty much think this.
/start self opinion
I don't think the Wii U is going to "turn around" with it's sales and I'm expecting 25% below gamecube numbers. Not that it should matter to you or I as consumers.

Remember, Pachter (It looks like I'm not the only misreading it as "Patcher") is there to make the stockholders money and not make the fans happy.
Nintendo going mobile and bringing in quick profits would sky rocket the share price.
I say this so people will try and cut him some slack when he does his analytical magic.

@Guitardude7 Reggie has been more of a show man at Nintendo what notable things has he done so far that prove he is capable of leading the entire company.

Yeah, Howard Lincoln was all about trying to open up to new genres and serve western interests, he brought Rare onboard, he brought LucasArts on board, he helped create Retro.....he was responsible for Midway and Acclaims support of the N64 when Japanese developers jumped ship. He pushed for sports games and games which appealed to more mature audiences.

Reggie? He's made some cool E3 speeches....

I actually spent 20 minutes trying to come up with an analogy, but it wasn't working out. Basically, I don't think anyone can really turn the Wii U around as far as AAA goes, especially someone like Reggie who's never actually been a developer, unlike Iwata. In fact, I'd argue Iwata is more qualified than most CEO's, who usually come from different sectors and get in through connections and politics rather than simply working up the rungs and learning the ins and outs of the business they're supposed to run.

@Jazzer94 True, you got me there which is why I argued that instead of him replacing Iwata, he and NOA should have a bigger influence in the say of their western buisness strategy as well as having dedicated development teams, not just localization teams.

@CanisWolfred True. that's a very valid point.

@cpm So a console that's selling worse than the Gamecube, with no sign of games after Mario Kart 8 until Smash Bros in the Winter and is quickly losing momentum is considered fine? How is Nintendo fine? Please explain.

@cpm Nintendo is not fine. I still think there is a possibility that nintendo could turn the Wii U around, but it won't be another Wii no matter how hard they try. All depends on their E3 presentation.
