Actually, the amusing thing about this hack is that the hacking group — known as lulzsec and responsible for many recent Sony hacks — says they weren't intending any harm, and in fact here's one of their latest Twitter updates:
We love Nintendo and Sega, if anything we'd hack for them. If you're listening Nintendo/Sega, you, you uh... you want Sony hacked more?
Anyhow, this is a particularly dangerous and bold hacker group insofar as they have recently been hacking FBI affiliates, revealing user data and emails, and then openly defying the government to try and stop them. It's kind of interesting to watch it unfold. But, in any case, they love Nintendo and won't be causing them any harm; so don't worry about it.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
Hmm, Nintendo and Sony both hacked and Microsoft is having no problems at this point in time. Hmmm.
Also whoever hacked Nintendo did it for teh lulz cuz nothing can be gained from hacking them @tbd i think he was implying MS is behind this. Only Bill Gates could pull off a hack with such skill
CURSE YOU AND YOUR GENIUS BILL GATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This could give Nintendo a bad rep if people misinterpret that.
On the topic of hacking, I just got this message as I tried to enter the Nintendo EU site:
"European Nintendo website phishing possibility
We have learnt of a possible phishing threat to users of the European Nintendo website which we are currently investigating. The protection of our customers is our utmost priority and so we have taken the precaution of immediately shutting down some parts of this website until further notice. We would like to reassure you that we do not hold our customer’s bank, credit card or address details on the European Nintendo website and so this data is not at risk.
Phishing is when someone attempts to find out your personal information, such as usernames and passwords, by pretending to be a trustworthy person or company in an electronic communication such as an email or via a website.
We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. Please do get in touch with your local Nintendo Customer Services if you have any further concerns."
