Topic: Nintendo Network ID Sign in discontinued

You can no longer sign in using your WiiU/3DS era Nintendo Network ID credentials, and must now use seperate 'Nintendo Account' credentials.

I never created a Nintendo Account (I always signed in using my 'Nintendo Network ID') but I believe it is possible to link the obsolete account with any already existing or new Nintendo account.

I'd read it might have implications for online (multiplayer/shop) aspects for the 3DS and WiiU, but I just checked on the 3DS eshop, and while it used my Nintendo Network ID to sign in, there didn't appear to be any problems.

I am, however, unable to log into my 'my.nintendo' account, as the option to sign in via 'Nintendo Network ID' isn't available.

I just made a 3ds eshop purchase on Friday with no issue. So now, I'm wondering when this went into effect. Thanks for the heads up.

@WoomyNNYes I think it means using a Nintendo Network ID (Wii U/3DS login) to log into a Nintendo Account on a Switch or Nintendo's own website, instead of using a username or e-mail address. Logged on to the Wii U eShop earlier to see what games were on sale, and I had no problem.

It's because of the recent hacks. Nintendo themselves said the you won't be able to login in anymore with the Nintendo Network ID for security reasons.

It turns out I did have a Nintendo Account all along - I noticed when I logged on to the Switch eShop. I am curious about the implications for them phasing out the Nintendo Network ID though...

i was scared that i'd be locked out but i guess the password i had set up with the network ID works the same simply putting my email in first, so i must of already had this set up years ago.

This explains why I could not get into my 2DSXL Nintendo account on my laptop and had to create a new one. The funny part I never thought about it when at a later time and date I logged onto it on my 2DSXL. I think I have a total of five different accounts. Is there a way Nintendo can let me know which accounts don't work now? I might have had more than what I can remember.
