There definitely are better but maybe there is an reason we don't know about behind their actions.

So, what kind of games would you like to see come from this kind of collaboration? Here's what I think could work:

  • A festival style shooting gallery where you shoot down Nintendo figurines (look up Popcork! from Colopl, to see what I'm getting at). You'd be able to view your collected figurines, each with a line or two about the character and/or franchise. It would update with new obtainable figurines whenever a new console release is looming to build awareness/hype. Any game that lets us collect Smash style figurines could be a real winner, IMO.
  • A tower defence game set in the world of Zelda. I'm not a fan of the genre, but it's a big money maker on mobile, so I could see this being a hit.
  • A variation of Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. It's not a DeNA game, but if this venture works well for them, maybe they'll give GungHo the okay to do it (it'd have to be a different version, & not a straight port of the 3DS game though).
  • Picross is exactly the kind of game that works well with mobile audiences, and there already many versions on the Play Store & App Store. Having a version with Nintendo themed puzzles would be fun, I think.

1. A card game akin to Hearthstone, where you play cards with Nintendo characters
2. A Pokemon game akin to Monster Galaxy
3. Doodle Jump mario edition (this isn't happening since DeNA isn't Lima Sky, but it would be SO AWESOME!)

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

The hearthstone thing sounds like an obvious thing with Ambiio cards being on the way. I'm still shocked that Nintendo never lerverged the pokemon TCG through the DS family or the Wii U.

WAT!

Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

So, we know that the subscription service isn't launching until the autumn, but do you think we'll see any games before then?

The Digitally Downloaded article I read about the news seemed to indicate that the mobile games would only be available to those who subscribed to the service (meaning they wouldn't be released beforehand).

This is probably just Pokémon Shuffle stuff on iOS and Android, and I probably don't care for it, but who knows, I'd still like to see what kind of games they're thinking of.

I think this is a great idea. Smartphone "games" were certainly my gateway to owning Nintendo systems again. After being dissatisfied with the most acclaimed offerings on iOS, I decided to see what Nintendo was doing these days. Now I own a Wii U, a New 3DS, and a ton of Nintendo games. I definitely think this will convert SOME smartphone gamers over to Nintendo hardware.

Ooh, what about a Pokémon Snap sort of game (not a port of the original, though).

It's on rails, so you don't have to worry about making complex movements. It's slower paced, meaning aiming with gyro controls would work fine. Just tap anywhere on the left side of the screen to toss an apple, and anywhere on the left to take a photo.

Will you pursue a premium strategy where you charge users up front for games? Or will you offer free-to-play and try to capitalize on in-app purchases?

I understand that, unlike the package model for dedicated game systems, the free-to-start type of business model is more widely adopted for games on smart devices, and the free-to-start model will naturally be an option for us to consider. On the other hand, even in the world of smart device apps, the business model continues to change. Accordingly, for each title, we will discuss with DeNA and decide the most appropriate payment method. So, specifically to your question, both can be options, and if a new Nintendo-like invention comes of it, then all the better.

On the other hand, Nintendo does not intend to choose payment methods that may hurt Nintendo’s brand image or our IP, which parents feel comfortable letting their children play with. Also, it’s even more important for us to consider how we can get as many people around the world as possible to play Nintendo smart device apps, rather than to consider which payment system will earn the most money.

Will Nintendo or DeNA be developing these games? And is Mr. Miyamoto [creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and other iconic Nintendo franchises] working on anything smart device-related?

Development of smart device games will be mainly done by Nintendo, but it is significant that we are forming a joint development structure with DeNA. Nintendo, through experience in the dedicated game system business, is good at making traditional game products. But for smart devices, in addition to the “product” aspect of a game, the aspect of an ever-evolving “service” is very important—a service that encourages consumers to play every day even for a short time. DeNA has extensive know-how in developing the “service” side of things, and will be primarily responsible for the service-oriented operations. We will be able to greatly leverage strengths of each party.

As for any involvement of Mr. Miyamoto, we will discuss it when possible, but for now, understand that his priority is on the development of Wii U titles that will be launched this year.

With a peripheral, this could be a new way to use Amiibos. I don't know how, but there definitely could be a simple game, on the go, with Amiibos that could spread fuse these two products together.

Don't most SmartPhones already have NFC built in now? My Galaxy S3 does and that is a few years old now.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

So Nintendo will make the games and DeNA will "service" them

One game I think would be a perfect fit for mobile: WarioWare.

Think about it. A WarioWare title specifically optimized for mobile devices would be really cool. It'd also be one of the highest quality games you could find on iOS and Android.

(I finally upgraded from a basic to a smartphone less than a year ago, so excuse my ignorance ) But even more so! Nintendo hasn't done much with the amiibos yet. This could be their opportunity!

I feel like the key behind amiibo isn't doing 1 big thing (like Skylanders or Disney Infinity) but doing a lot of small things, which we have already seen evidence of that. I would be interested in using my Amiibo on my phone, just I wonder what they could do.

Quite true regarding the former. As for what kind of game would be used on a phone... I could see a Nintendolike simulation work. Something more than the old Tamagotchi, yet not as expansive as Sims, yet something interconnected like Sims Social.

Something more like Tomodachi Life? You could scan Amiibos for a random piece of furniture themed to the character you scanned, or something.

A smaller version of Tomodachi Life I think could go viral on mobile to be honest.
