Topic: Happy 25th Birthday, Mario Kart!

25 years ago, on August 27th, 1992, Super Mario Kart was released on the Super Famicom. 9 games and over 100 million copies later, and the series is still going strong!

I've played Mario Kart for nearly a decade,starting with Mario Kart Wii back in 2008. From there, it's snowballed into a massive love for the series. I'm sure that I'm far from the only person who's enjoyed some rounds of Mario Kart over the years. Anyone else have great memories of the series? Any tracks that you wish you could play again and again? Any victories stolen from you because of a blue shell?

Wow I didn't know today was the official 25th birthday. I've actually been doing some of the last time trials I needed to do today.

I've been playing mario kart since the snes. I specifically remember being in daycare and playing super Mario kart against other kids. The loser had to rotate out and I dominated so I got a lot of playtime. It's a very special memory and I still love Mario kart as much as ever. I was raised on it. MK8D is absolutely amazing. I love how far we've come.

You know Nintendo, this could be celebrated by releasing 'Mario Kart Anniversary' where all drivers, items and karts from previous installments return with fans being asked to vote for their favorite tracks and battle arenas, like SEGA did for Sonic Generations. This could also include a Double Dash mode where two players share a Kart again. Oh well, we still have the 30th anniversary in 2022 so get busy, Nintendo!

Don't know how exactly I first encountered a Mario game as a wee baby but the likely culprits are either Mario Kart 64 or Mario Party 1. Still, though, a console's Mario Kart title has always been one of the most played titles and go to couch multiplayer titles in my household (which was also the case for Mario Party until its downfall at the hands of MP9 and subsequent releases) so I guess Happy Birthday to this beloved fast-paced Kart racer we know as Mario Kart!

Blue shell? Pah! There were none of that rubbish when I were a lad...

I actually have massive gaps in my Mario Kart history. Started playing as a schoolkid on the SNES, then as a student on Mario Kart 64, and now with my own kids on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The jumps in sophistication on those three games are enormous, but each was brilliant fun and at its best with cursing, crowing friends. And I've been playing as Toad for 25 years. Sheesh...
