I have to say that when I saw the Nintendo direct, it soarly disappointed me. Most of all was the new Legend of Zelda. Before I start "complaining", I have to say that I think it would be awesome to play in the old world of ALttP, and it could have been really great. Now for what I thought wasn't cool. First, the round smiling bouncy things. I mean, they look like something that should be in a Mario and Luigi game. Second, the new blob monsters. They are way too thin, and are SUPER shiny. Definitely not the best choice to change on of Zelda's most iconic enemies. Overall, the art style is really childish, and it totally reminds me of Nintendo Land. I think they should keep it cartoony, but not make it childish.

A lot of Zelda games have childish assets and humor. This new one will be no exception.

As for the new enemies, it's nothing new. Link's Awakening had a few Mario enemies in it including the infamous Chain Chomp. As far as we know, there are no Mario enemies in this installment. Not that your complaints are, exactly, something to be concerned about.

Just for you.

Ah, so you're gonna be one of those people.

Nintendo delivered big with this announcement, and yet you still found some way to make mostly invalid complaints. Have you ever truly paid attention to the environments in a Zelda game? It isn't supposed to be "gritty" and "hardcore". Twilight Princess was the only game that even attempted such a thing (and judging from the beta footage, they left out some really potent elements).

Actually, let's flip this question around: what do you expect from the new Zelda?

The artstyle is based on the original Artwork for ALttP. I've personally been asking for a game using this style for years, childish or not, it looks absolutely gorgeous to me.

You're right that he's wrong about what makes a Zelda game, but you're wrong when you say that Nintendo 'delivered big'. To be honest I cant think of a more bland way they could have announced a new Zelda game.

@Ark_Sin @Geonjaha No, I love Nintendo and think they did really good at what they did. I'm just stating what I think about the new game.

What I am expecting for a new Zelda game is the art style to be something like Wind Waker, or art style like the video they released at E3, to show off the wii u.

@Chrono_Cross Yeah,I know they do have a lot of silliness and humor, but the smiling faces that launch you? ...

um... they were in A link to the past. They aren't new, although they have new tricks.

Just like Wind Waker and Skyward sword, the art style may seem a bit off but it can grow on you.
Try to give it a chance.

(Shessh, the blob monsters being super shiny. Really? Ugh Nitpickers.)

The last two Zelda games for their handheld systems have been in the vein of Wind Waker. I was ecstatic when I saw these graphics come up in the announcement. I've been hoping for something similar for years and was starting to doubt I would ever see them again. They instantly reminded me of Minish Cap and LttP at the same time and I love both of those games.. I have high hopes for this one despite how "childish" some of it looks. I wasn't a fan of the weird cell-shaded link of the wind waker/phantom hourglass/spirit tracks games but after playing spirit tracks I liked them. Same goes for Skyward Sword. I think all Zelda games manage to have the right graphics to fit the content.

Question for the OP: What was your first Zelda game? I only ask because I have a feeling a lot of people who are complaining about this new game are younger or started playing zelda in the n64/gamecube era. My first Zelda game was the NES version.. probably why I'll always be a fan of top-down. It's all Nostalgia related. People instantly lose feelings towards something if that isn't touched upon. Especially in the gaming community.

Guys, I'm not trying to find something wrong with the new game, Im just stating what I don't like about it. You probably can't find a more loyal Nintendo fan than me, but I'm just not liking this new game.

@Spuratis My first Zelda game was Phantom Hourglass. I don't think top down is bad at all, I just don't like the childishness of the art style.

I think Nintendo has overkilled on nostalgia, but sadly, it suckers in alot of fans who want to relive the good old days, untill their sick of it, and no longer want it.
I don't know about other people, but I think Zelda TP was going in the right direction with Zelda games, I enjoy the dark tone, and it could be done better.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Well if you really want to get into it then alright. [Personal opinion incoming]. The new art style they're using looks bad and doesn't have the charm a lot of other Zelda games have, the world is completely recycled and the new 'mechanics' based around 3D look dull. The view is a little too much top-down despite having comparatively weak 3D effects and the temple design looks too similar to those of the DS games. Of course, this is just what I believe based on the one trailer they've put out - but that's all you and everyone else has to go on as well.

Considering the next Wii U Zelda is going to be 3D, not to mention that Wind Waker U releases this year, I'm glad that Nintendo are going in this direction for THIS Zelda game. Also while many would be happy with a straight remake of a LTTP, this is even better.

The plot development in here is extensive, that wall of quotes sure looks inviting!

On topic: of course the Zelda you see doesn't equate perfectly to the Zelda imagined. Give it time.
