first last night I logged on & got a strange mii on my Nintendo Network user now today I got this email from Nintendo. Has Nintendo been hacked

This email has been automatically sent from Nintendo following your request for a temporary password for your Nintendo Network ID.

A temporary password has been issued to allow you to keep using your Nintendo Network ID.

The temporary password is: ????????????

This temporary password will expire 24 hours from the time this email was sent.
If it is used within 24 hours, you can continue to use it as your password. However, due to security concerns with regard to your ID, we recommend changing the password.
You can change the password either in the User Settings menu accessible from the Wii U user-selection screen, or by accessing Nintendo Network ID Settings in the Nintendo 3DS System Settings.

If the 24-hour period has expired, please repeat the procedure to have a new temporary password issued.

Thank you for using Nintendo Network.

Nintendo wasn't hacked. It sounds like someone used the "forgot your password?" Feature for your username.

So it's a different username and a strange Mii - perhaps it's an altogether different account? As far as I know, you can't change a Nintendo Network ID once it's registered, so I don't think there's any way your NNID could have been changed.

Maybe someone's registered an NNID and accidentally given your email address as theirs?

seems more like someone hacked your email and took the chance to mess with your NNID, Nintendo's primitive account system is the safest because no bigger harm can be done without access to the hardware(WiiU or 3DS with the NNID linked to it)
though if you don't have a 3DS(since you do have a WiiU) some idiot might have taken the plunge to use your NNID in a spare 3DS(though that would require the person to have your NNID password....) just to mess with you(and maybe use the money in your EShop balance)
I recommend you to change all your passwords of your email and of every single thing you have linked to your mail.

the Mii(and the Mii's name) can be changed freely, only the NNID can't

Password hints corner!

tips to make a safe password:
1. write down all the alphabet in a notebook page(please do on paper, for safety), remember to leave enough space next to each letter
2. randomly select numbers symbols and letters to put beside each one of the alphabet's letter you wrote down
3. select a word you like(any word that fits the minimun size is fine) and rewrite it using the symbols you wrote beside each corresponding alphabet letter
4. you're good to go with a seemingly random password that will be hard to forget because it has a hidden meaning behind it!
obs. be sure to never let anyone see the notebook's changed alphabet or it'll be all in vain.

Seems weird. Do you still have all your games. If not, contact Nintendo (of Europe) and complain
