I know that with the transfer that you cannot move just one thing off your Wii to your Wii U. You have to move it all. But I was thinking, could I put one of my virtual console games on an sd card or hard drive that is compatible with the Wii U and move it that way without moving any other data?

I don't think so. WHen you transfer over everything you transfer the license for that game so to speak and that is tied to the console. There is no way of moving it without doing a whole transfer. Its Nintendo's way of keeping people from passing around free copies of VC games.

@Tasuki That stinks, because my younger sisters still use the wii so all their saves would have to be moved onto my wii u, just for me to get one game. But what if I made a copy of all the data and moved either the original or copied version to the wii u? Could that work?

If you had any digital games on your Wii, you will not be able to play them on that Wii after the transfer unless you repurchase (not redownload) them from the Wii Shop. The games' licenses will be moved to the Wii U and cannot be moved back

@Unca_Lz That's fine with me. I haven't played on the wii in a long time. The wii is mainly for my younger sisters to use while I use the Wii U
