I just started getting this message and now my Wii can't read ANY disks. I've had it since 2006 so my warranty is up. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm considering opening it up myself to see if I can figure out what is wrong with the disk drive.

So is your Wii modified in any way? Chips, homebrew, DVDX; that sort of thing.

This seems to be a really common problem. I hope they've fixed it on newer Wiis. This happened on my Dreamcast's though back in the day.

Google search online, somebody's probably repaired it and taken pictures. If you're going to risk taking it apart yourself, should probably do it with some sort of random internet person's guide.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

That directed at OP, but it's pretty interesting that it happened to yours.

I've never used any mods. Ever since January the drive has been making strange noises while I was playing a game.

I'm going to try the number for troubleshooting and repair anyway.

I had a similar problem.
I was trying to play Ocarina of Time/Master Quest on my Wii and as soon as I went in to the little tunel that goes into Zelda's castle, it said "The disc could not be read, please eject the disc..." But the game was used and severly scratched, anyways what I did was put toothpaste on it, the wiped it off with a damp paper towel, never happened again.

This probably won't help, I just felt like sharing.

This is what happened to me. Try sending it in to Nintendo. Good luck with getting your Wii fixed.

I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

morphballer

I did send it in for repairs and got it back last Friday so I'm good to go. Only problem was my warranty expired so I had to pay $75+shipping.

You had to pay for shipping? Even when I sent mine in the P+P was still no charge (though my repair was more at £70 so you didn't do too bad there).
