Topic: Transferring Old SD Card 3DS Data to New MicroSD Card 3DS

Hello everyone,
I recently traded in my old 3DS XL for the new one that just came out. Before I did that however I took everything that was on my SD card and saved it to my computer. I also still have that SD card. At first I thought I'd be able to just put that SD card into the new one; until I found out that it uses a microSD card. So I put the data I had saved onto the computer onto the new microSD card. My problem now is that I don't see any of that save data from the 3DS menu or any of the games I owned a digital copy of.

Can someone please point me in the right direction or tell me what I need to do to recover my data onto my new 3DS? Thank you!

Your pretty much screwed if you traded your old one. You need it to get certain data off of to put on the new one. You NEED to try to get you old one back in order to have all of you data transfer over. If you can't get it back then all of you stuff is lost minus the save data. Basically you will have to re purchase everything you had digitally.

I am mostly concerned with the save data. Will it just automatically read when I start a game back up? Because when I look in system settings I don't see anything for saved data.

Yeah the save data should still work if you re purchase the games.

I would be more concerned with your actual games. Because you didn't perform a system transfer, you don't own any of the games that you have downloaded. They're still on the 3DS you traded in. You may still have the files, but the actual license that's required to play the game is on your old 3DS.

Okay, I am fine with that. How about all my mii characters and what not. Are those just gone? Also thank you.

Mii characters and all street pass data will be lost unfortunately as it is still on the old 3ds

Okay, so I contacted the gamestop I traded my 3DS to and they are willing to pull out my DS so that I may do a system transfer. Will the fact that my old 3ds has been formatted effect the license of games I had on them?

I believe so. If it's been formatted that means the old data has been wiped. I think your options of getting your data back are are 0%. Sorry...
