Topic: Transfer Data from Wii U back to Wii

Hello,

Some time ago I transfered my Wii data to my Wii u. Now I want to transfer it back to my Wii. I know that you can use a sd card to do this but it does not work with games that use the online function even if you never used it on the wii. The problem is that Mariokart wii used the online function and I cant copy it on the sd card. Is there any way to get the data back to the wii?

Thanks in advance😉👍

@LordOx
Mario Kart Wii Save date CANNOT be copied either from Wii to Wii U or from Wii U to Wii.
You just only have one option when you want to copy the save data: Delete without Copy and Move options.
Sorry, you have to continue your latest Save data from Wii.

I believe the Wii to Wii U save data transfer is unfortunately one way. I discovered the "games with online features can't be moved" when I got my own Wii U. I couldn't easily do a direct transfer from my family's old Wii to my own system, so I used a SD card to move my save files. Unfortunately, this meant the Guitar Hero saves had to stay on the old system.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Yep Wii to Wii U transfer is one way only once you transfer your stuff you can't transfer it back.

Save data can be backed up to an SD card, but only for games that do not have online multiplayer, so you may be able to transfer save data between your Wii U and Wii, but not for games such as Mario Kart Wii, so I'm afraid your Mario Kart Wii save data is stuck on your Wii U... [ominously]for all eternity![/ominously]

I wish that Nintendo had released a firmware update after the closure of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection that allowed online-capable games' save data to be backed up. I imagine that the main reason why this prohibition was initially put in place was to prevent identical profiles from messing with the servers, but without the capability to play online, I see no reason why save data shouldn't be transferable, but I guess Nintendo didn't think it worthwhile to allocate resources to appease those who were still using their Wii.

I dread the thought of losing my Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl save data (even though I haven't played either in years).

I bet when you originally transferred your files to the Wii U you thought you were upgrading. If only you knew then what you know now!😉

Isnt it possible with homebrew neither?

Please don't talk about homebrew or any illegal ways to play video games in this website.

So is this a possiblility?

Octane

@Anti-Matter It's perfectly fine, as long as it isn't about current gen systems.

@Octane And as long as there are no "How to" guides or links to roms and programs. I am adding this because some people can't tell the difference in discussing homebrew and actually showing someone how to do it.

LordOx

Because of his comment I deleted my comment about homebrew because I thought that it would be aggainst tos or something

@LordOx Ah I see. Yeah we can't discuss how to do it here, especially where to go to find the ROMs and stuff, but general discussion about it is ok. Like if you were just to say I modded my Wii to play NES games thats fine.
