Hi there, I just downloaded TF2 (after 6 1/2 hours...) onto my brand new laptop today (with all the specs required to run the game), and decided to check out the offline practice mode just to get the controls down. But when I got into the game play, I walked very, VERY slowly. I could still jump, reload and fire my rockets absolutely fine (even pulled off a couple of rocket jumps) and the graphics and sound effects worked, but I simply couldn't run any faster than a snail's pace. Can anyone help me with this, it would be really helpful since I really want to get into this game. Thanks in advance!

P.S I have tried pressing Control, but that only lets me walk at normal speed for about half a second. Thanks!

Does it happen with multiple classes or only the Soldier? How slowly are we talking here?

I have only tried with Solider because that is the only practice mode I have got (need to play other practice modes for other characters). I am walking very, VERY slowly, literally pixels, definitely not at the walking speed.

Try deleting it from your computer and downloading it again and see if that fixes it.

I would also try asking in this thread and see if anyone else is having that problem.

I have tried downloading it again (another 5 hours wasted), turning down the graphics to the lowest possible setting and switching to DirectX 8, but no luck... Just going to assume my computer doesn't want to cooperate with the download (even though it has all the specs needed), and I'm going to try getting the Orange Box. And if that doesn't work, then I will just give up with PC gaming... This has not been a good first impression seeing that there are thousands of 10 year old kids playing this game on laptops much worse than mine... I have been really excited about playing this game for months, and now I can't play it for some really stupid unknown reason. I have found NOTHING of my problem anywhere else on the Internet apart from one thread which had no answers, just bad luck I guess...

Than perhaps thats just how the game is than? If you are not finding any problems about it on the internet than there probably isn't one. If your computer meets the requirements and you turned down the settings than there is nothing wrong. Perhaps you should try the game on a friends computer if you are able to.

Seriously, it is not how the game is, I am sure of it 100%. I have spend hours watching TF2 vids on Youtube before I got the game. When is crouching movement sped ever faster than normal movement speed?

Thanks to everyone who suggested solutions, but I have found the problem literally 10 minutes ago! It was nothing to do with the game at all. I have a keylogger which auto-corrects spelling as I type pre installed onto my computer, and that was interfering with controlling all games being played using a keyboard. Luckily I can just pause it whenever i want, and the problem goes away. All sorted, but now I have to wait another 5 hours for it to download again since I gave up hope... I only realized the problem after i had some issues with some Flash games and a bit of research.
