Topic: Strange 3DS internet connection problems

Hi,

I have had my 3DS XL for about 15 months now. I have had at my apartment two different routers (old one was Inteno, cirrent is Zyxel p-661hnu-f1) both had no problems with any of my devices and 3DS worked like a charm. Also everywhere else that I have gone, the 3DS had no problems connecting to routers and to internet.

Last November I started having problems with my current router and the 3DS. It says it isn't even connecting to internet when I do the connection check up, I use WPA2 security setting and the key inserted is correct, I have also tried the setup through the WPS button setup. I try to use the Internet Browser, Miiverse eShop, Theme shop etc. but it never connects. I always get some sort of error code from Nintendo. Usually in the screen the 3DS says that streetpass is active, then it shows usually the connection just as grey and says "enabled", but also sometimes it does show the Internet connection as being on and blue.

The strangest thing is that when I close the lid and put 3DS to sleep mode, the internet connection seems to be working with no problems. I get all the Spotpass news from Nintendo and also the eShop and Miiverse has flashing dots when something new is there.

How can that be? I have reset my router and tried to check if suddenly there was something in it's settings that has changed as my internet provider did apparently update remotely my router's firmware while I was gone on vacation in October. I got txt message from them about that.

At the same time, my wife has used since November her Japanese New 3DS regular model, and she has not had any problems with the same router.

I am waiting for my New 3DS XL to arrive so I can test if that will have any problems with Zyxel, but has anyone at Nintendolife ever heard of such a problem with a 3DS? I haven't had the change to test the 3DS now with a different router after the problems began, but I am planning on doing that today.

No one has had this kind of strange problem?

It's so weird that we have nothing like this with the N3DS, or any other console or tablet or phone. With everything else the connection works normally. Only my 3DS XL seems affected.

Finally did recently some testings and found out that the router seems to be the problem after all.

When I turn off the router and turn it back on, the 3DS and Wii U connections work perfectly fine for a few days until I have to turn off the router again. So weird that it is happening with only the old 3DS XL and now also Wii U, but not with Android, Sony's game devices or my tv/bluray or the New 3DS.
