Using a Wii disk in my Wii U. I get to the screen that says "Starting Wii Menu", where it asks me to point the Wii remote at the TV to choose a display option. Unfortunately, it won't let me actually choose a display option with the Wii remote - doesn't matter what buttons I push - no response. The only thing it recognizes is when I push the B button on the Wii remote to cancel out of the screen and return to the Wii U menu. So it's not an issue of it not recognizing the remote at all. I've tried re-pairing my remotes, resetting the sensitivity, etc. No joy.
Which of course means it never actually starts the Wii menu, so I can't play my game, despite having done so before with no problems whatsoever. Why has it suddenly stopped letting me choose a display option? I could before. Bizarre!
Yep. All the Wii U stuff works fine, and everything works if I boot directly into the Wii on startup. Just can't switch between the Wii U and Wii after startup. Consistently gets stuck on the "Starting Wii Menu" screen, asking me to use the Wii remote to choose a display option.
If I hit the Home button on the Wii remote, I get a screen I've never seen before with icons for settings and various other tools, and a big button in the center that lets me return to the Wii U, but seemingly nothing that lets me into the Wii games. It's really ridiculous.
Suddenly started working normally after I set the Wii U Gamepad in the charging cradle off to the side of the TV. Apparently it's really picky about where the gamepad is. It's weird though because when it's in the cradle it's not facing the sensor bar. I had tried various other positions with the gamepad, thinking this might be why it wouldn't show me the pointer for making a selection with the Wii Remote.
But why tell me to point the Wii remote at the TV instead of at the gamepad? Works when I point the Wii remote at the Wii U gamepad sitting in the cradle. Doesn't work when I point the Wii remote at the TV as instructed on-screen.
