I've noticed lately that my browsing of this site has become increasingly sluggish. Specifically, when I load or refresh a page on Nintendolife (among a select few others), my CPU usage spikes from 4% up to 25%. In effective turns, my browser hangs for a few seconds until the page fully loads, during which time, I can't mouse over any of the site tabs along the top, let alone any of the page tabs for any other websites I may be browsing at that time.
The CPU usage hovers around 5%.
Meanwhile, in Chrome, the CPU spikes at about 38-50% (albeit for much less time), and constantly fluctuates between 5% and 15% CPU usage. I experience none of the issues I have with Firefox.
I'm getting close to quitting Firefox - if I weren't so familiar with the layout, I'd have ditched it ages ago (late last year, it had an issue with Flash Player, that cause a ridiculous memory leak whenever I visited sites with video - such as Nintendolife, and to such a degree, that as soon as I'd open Nintendolife, I'd have to open up Task Manager and shut down the Flash Player process. Eventually (before they fixed it), I had no choice but to disable it outright.)). Nethertheless, I'd rather not use Chrome (except when browsing Destructoid, and want to read the Disqus comments, which, you guessed it, don't show up on Firefox any more). My question is, has anyone else using firefox experienced similar problems? Are there, perhaps, background website goings on that might be causing these problems for me? Are there any steps I could take to remedy this if it isn't the site?
My Firefox version is up to date (28.0), and my Shockwave Flash (the main culprit of my earlier problems) seems to be as well. And to put those CPU numbers into context, my CPU speed is 3.30Ghz.
I switched to Chrome a few years ago now, I used to be quite an advocate of Firefox but came into the same problems, it has become very slow and resource heavy, flash being crap really doesn't help it either.
Telling your CPU speed puts nothing into context, it's dependent on the architecture. Use CCleaner, run a Malwarebytes scan, and try deleting and reinstalling Firefox.
Lots of censorship here...

or you can just use Ubuntu instead of Windows(unless you use your PC for gaming, then ignore what I said)

@GuSilverFlame Linux isn't an option. I've got several programs that require Windows.
While I can import my favourite websites into chrome, I've often wondered whether I'd be able to use similar plugins, and I've always liked the failsafe "about:cache" method of saving flash animations onto my hard drive.
In any case, I'll try this CCleaner, and reinstalling firefox. My computer could probably do with a good clean as well. I'll look into how best o go about that.
Honestly, Firefox does drag a bit lately, so I can see how this is an isssue. But keep in mind thaat Flash itself isn't entirely innocent, since the latest Flash updates apparently changed quite a few things which Google managed to counter while Mozilla decidedly focuses more on HTML5 and JavaScript (though Chrome does that a bit better as well).
The idea regarding CCleaner is good, but you better not go too far beyond that program. These cleaning programs can cause lots of trouble.
Chrome is a heck lot better. Every time I used Fire Fox, bad glitches happened. One time there was an infinite window glitch (where multiple windows open randomly), so I had to power off the computer (because nothing else worked) and then uninstalled Firefox. After that, I never used it again
