Topic: New Switch User Transfer - have i messed up?

Ok, so I got the new AC switch, transferred my main user file and save data. Had to go through the pain of redownloading 400gb of digital content back on to the same sd card because Nintendo won’t let me just swap it over. Took a while but all seemed fine.

Started my AC island life and then noticed the play time data for my other games hasn’t moved across, by which I mean if I sort my games by time played. I’m really OCD about this and it was bothering me so much I thought I’d just retransfer my user profile and data back over to my original Switch, leaving my AC data on the new one and just use that for AC and new games.

When I go to transfer my user I can’t see an option to keep the data on both consoles like I did when I initially transferred it. I didn’t select the option to merely copy over as I was going to sell my old Switch. So have I messed this up? Is there a way to get my profile back on the original switch without sacrificing my AC save data? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

@DaftAda I don't think you needed to re-download to your 400gb card.

Sounds like you're butting up against the primary & secondary console setting. I haven't messed with multiple consoles enough to know off-hand what your issue is. Either you missed something, or you don't fully understand how the primary + secondary console system works. That's not an insult. There are caveats/limits to what switch the system allows you to do when you use more than one console. If you understand that already, forgive me.

Someone else might know more here, but I don't know how long you'll wait, or if someone else will help. I personally would recommend calling Nintendo support. Actually, most times, if someone asks about multiple consoles here, only I or maybe another will answer. Sometimes just me.

Thanks for your reply. It’s very possible I’m just not understanding the primary/secondary accounts set up! I’ll give Nintendo a call.

My Switch Lite didn't show those hours either when I put my user account onto that new system. Sometimes I forget and say, "How the heck have I only played ____ 2 hours?!"

Also, it's done now, but if ever needed in the future, you don't have to go through the trouble of redownloading all those games. As long as you have a PC (doesn't work with Mac or Chromebook), plug your SD card into the computer, pull all that data over to the computer. Set up your new Switch, pop the SD card in and format it. Now pull it out, pop back into your computer and transfer all that data back to the card, completely replacing the new folder that was just created. You can now use that card with all the old data on your new system. I have a Mac and it had never worked for me, I had to spend a full day redownloading my near 400gb of content only to discover that with a PC, this is effortless. I tried it and confirmed.

@DaftAda regarding play time hours, it always takes 10 or 11 days for that to show on new Switch consoles or new games. And as @skulldrager mentioned, it might only show hours played on that console, i think. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it goes.

@Woomy_NNYes The time data on my user profile has moved across (I’ve heard some people say theirs didn’t), but I can’t sort the titles by time played. This was a great feature for stat freaks like myself, in lieu of a proper play time tracker like the 3ds wii and wii u had.

It’s frustrating but I’ll just have to move on, not the end of the world!
