my new 3ds I imported from Japan isn't turning on anymore. It died while in sleep mode last night, and after charging it up it isn't turning on anymore. The blue power light comes on, and the yellow wireless light flickers like normal, but the screens remain black. Help please

Will they help me even though it's an imported system?

Looks like they won't let me start a repar order from their website because it doesn't recognize the serial number

Thank you for writing to us. I would like to first apologize for the delay in our response. We have been especially busy and thank you for your patience as we reply.
Please note: We never encourage importing our systems from other regions due to the number of incompatibilities that exist. More information on this subject is available at our website:

As for your email, I was sorry to hear about what's happening with your Japanese New Nintendo 3DS. I realize this wasn't the answer you were hoping to hear, but I need to explain that Nintendo of America is unable to repair Japanese consoles. Furthermore, as you purchased your system from Japan, your only option for service will be to send it to a friend or family member there who can then arrange to have the system repaired through Nintendo Company, Ltd. directly. Once Nintendo Company, Ltd. has repaired your system it will be shipped back to your contact, who will then ship it to you. Please note that you will be responsible for any and all shipping charges between Japan and the United States.
For your convenience, I've included the contact information for Nintendo Company, Ltd. below:
011 (81) 75-662-9600
11-1 Kamitoba-hokotate-cho
Minami-ku
Kyoto 601-8501
Japan

Note: Nintendo Company, Ltd. is only available to offer consumer service in Japanese
If you have any additional questions or concerns, it would be best to speak with you directly. That way, we can gather all the details and provide you the most accurate information. You can reach our Consumer Service Department by calling 1-800-255-3700. Representatives are available any time between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time, seven days a week. If you call, please be sure to provide the agent you speak with the following reference number:

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

Good luck dude, this is a big reason I wouldn't import, it's very difficult to get any support if you need it. As you see, NoA won't and can't help you, they don't have the right resources to fix Japanese systems, they're only responsible for NA systems. Nintendo Company, Ltd would be the ones capable of repairing it, but for a variety of reasons they might not help with an imported system. You already don't fall under their terms of service because you are not in Japan and the systems are not designed to be used in other countries, with various reasons including the charger compatibility with outlets that may have different standards. Of course, plenty of people never have a problem, but if you do, there is no branch of Nintendo responsible for helping you. As they said, you may be able to get repair service if you have someone with a Japanese address requests repairs. You're lucky they even suggested that, but if you don't, you might be SOL. Plus you might need to know Japanese if you contact Nintendo Company, Ltd.

I imported an original DS since the UK launch was 4 months after the US/Japan launch. In less than a year, the D-pad was broken, and Nintendo UK didn't want to know, and there way no way to even send it directly to Nintendo Japan unless you live there. I'm never ever importing hardware ever again, which is why I find the region locking on Nintendo's current systems so frustrating.

Where did you buy it from? Perhaps contact the retailer for a replacement or refund?
