Topic: need advice on opening Nintendo 3DS xl

I'm replacing the top screen on my daughter's 3DS xl. I have the back cover off, no problem. Now here's where I am frustrated and need help or advice... It seems I have pretty well stripped every single screw (all 7 of them!) on the back base trying to remove it! How did this happen you might ask? Well good question! I used the right precision screwdriver but it seems as if the screws never wanted to "catch" in the first place, as if the +'s on the screw heads where just not deep enough! And as you may, or may not know, not only are the screws tensy tiny, but most are also deeply set. So, has anyone successfully gotten these screws out after stripping them? Is there another way I can remove that back plate, or is there another way to replace the top screen without going this route? Thanks!

....and why do you want to replace it? Should have sent it to Nintendo instead.

She had cracked the screen and Nintendo wanted $125 to replace it when I can just buy the part for $23. So $100+ for labor plus who knows how long until we get it back... no thanks!
If you have advice on getting it open, I would appreciate that very much rather than hear the whole "you shoulda done" instead. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, but I didn't, so...

I have replaced parts on many types of electronics using quality precision tools although I'm not by any means an expert at it. However these have been the cheapest screws I have worked on yet on a device and the fact that they are so deep set makes it even more of a nightmare. I would appreciate even the most jack-rigged job anyone's done successfully with this type of problem. I know I'm not the only out there who's dealt with this issue.

Wow, sorry to hear that.

I've taken my original 3DS apart a few times (to revive my L/R buttons). Usually, I just follow one of iFixit's guides.

If those screws are really stripped, and you can't find any other way to remove them (eg. the duct tape/rubber band approach), you might want to invest in a very fine screw extractor kit.

Best of luck!
