Topic: My Poor Wii U Bricked Today During the 5.1.2E Update...

My most precious, beloved and faithful Wii U sadly bricked itself today, whilst updating to the newest firmware (5.1.2E). Midway through the update process the system showed an error and said it was going to restart. It never did; much to my sadness. The symptoms are very similar to the BLOD, but instead of the light flashing blue it's solid. No picture, the GamePad won't recognise it, etc.

Does anyone know how much this issue costs to get fixed (any currency)? Or even better, is it deemed a manufacturer's fault under Australian Consumer Law? As it happened whilst updating, I had nothing to do with it. I bought this system at launch so it's not covered by any warranty.
Thanks.

First of all, call Nintendo and see what they say.

If they say they won't fix it for free, then look into what your options are.

Unfortunately warranties only go so far in protecting your belongings. After that, you'll usually have to pay regardless of whose fault it is because electronics will eventually err and/or fail.

Your only option is to contact Nintendo directly

I can't call Nintendo for a couple of days, so I would like to know a little more about this error beforehand. Thanks for your replies.

There isn't much we can do. Your only option is to call.

I'm pretty sure NOAU is toll-free. And I've called them up multiple times before and they are very helpful.

Ah, cool. I'll just wait then. Thanks. You can lock this thread if need be.

My Wii broke down twice during its lifetime, once the dirve unhinged and the other time a graphics chip burned out.
Both times were WAY past the warranty and nintendo repaired / replaces my console without asking a single question, both times for free (except shipping of course)
All i had to do was to call the support, write a problem report and pack the system up in the original packaging it came with and send it to their local branch.

Sony is the only one who thinks the customer should pay for errors caused by them.

Nintendo and Microsoft have always been reasonable about it. (Microsoft gave a brand new system for ones that stopped being able to read disks after a certain update. That double sided disk problem with the Wii Nintendo fixed for free).
