Do you have homebrew? If so you probably have this program installed on your Wii called DVDx that is supposed to help read DVD-Roms, but it keeps your Wii from reading Dual-Layer Discs (aka SSBB). I had this problem, uninstalled it, and SSBB worked fine. I'm not sure if Metroid Prime Trilogy is a Dual-Layer, though, I don't have it.
Sorry if you don't like homebrew mentioned here. Please don't ban me.

In this case, because you're helping out another user, we'll let it slide :)

I am not ignoring you. I just do not post much.

I have this same problem with my copy of Trilogy, I have to do a combination of resetting, ejecting the disc and tapping on the Wii in order to get it to read the disc. It was a major bummer when I put the disc in and it wouldn't read, but besides the tedious routine to get it to work, the game functions fine. I'll probably pick up a lens cleaner soon and hope this goes away...

Sorry for the bumping(prosody), but the same thing happened to me w/ brawl the other day, and I didn't want to make a new thread.
I just ordered MPT 2 days ago, so I want to be able to play it. :(
I guess I'll try the lens cleaner thing. Where would I buy one, and how much do they cost?

Here, and for $9.99 :)
Dunno if they're available in stores, I don't live in the states. Just bought one myself from Amazon UK a while back as a precautionary measure.

Before you buy a lens cleaner, if your Wii is standing up, try laying it on its side. Some Wiis are able to read discs (especially dual layer discs) better on their sides.

HAVE THE LENS CLEANED!!!!!!!!! this happens to brawl and MPTrilogy because they have a dual-layer so more info can be stored into one CD.. the only problem is the lens needs to be spotless to read them.. Take it to nintendo offices.. they can clean it in like 20 minutes

So their Wii was magically able to play different region discs then suddenly didn't. Haha. Keep dreaming fella.
