All good questions.
1.Depends when the last time a file was downloaded or updated to the card and what type of virus
2.You did the right thing by turning off your laptop, but to be safe, change the passwords to all your accounts
3.No, bad idea. Look up more info about the virus first or find a friend who may know alot.
Also, there are sites online that will give your computer a file and it will automatically download by itself. If you don't have a good anti-virus program, you won't even be warned

Try a different antivirus then, found ones like Norton and AVG to be "meh"...I have Avast and Malwarbytes. Never got a virus since then, Avast usually finds the thing before the virus can even activate.

Frankly you're best bet is to format. I had it once (or at least an australian version), did painstakingly manage to get rid of it, but my drivers were shot to buggery. If there is stuff you would like recovered get a 16gb memory stick and install a portable version of linux on it, set your laptop to boot from usb and go through your files in linux to recover them. Or you could install a free anti virus on the linux usb and try scanning and getting rid of it that way, but I wouldn't hold my breath

You gotta be careful of what you download. Even "video game mods" can be viruses as I learned the hard way. Do not fall for fake download links on websites, and try using better grammar next time. It makes you easier to understand, though it won't make you less likely to download a computer virus sadly.

I also can't stress enough how helpful Adblock can be. I feel a lot safer visiting sketchier websites that way, although I still try avoiding them in general. It's especially helpful for when you try downloading files, as all the fake download buttons will disappear.
You don't have to pay for an anitvirus AVG has a free version and it is just as good as Norton and McAfee but it doesn't put unnecessary stuff on your computer like they do. I also recommend getting Super Antispyware free edition as well and running that. I have been using both of those for the past few years and haven't got anything on my computer.

ok thanks i'll download them right now on both my laptops.
Update: is ok for the free download click to open up to download.com
Oh no...you see, that's how you get a virus. You have to get things from the source, not from some random torrent. People can attach viruses and who knows what in there. That's probably how you got a virus in the first place. Google it, don't click the top results if they're labeled ad, go to the official website, and get it there. It's like food; I can go, set up a torrent account, do whatever I want with your "Avast," and you'll be oblivious to that. The internet is a cold place, and selling info can be quite lucrative. Use the "you're the millionth visitor" scam, jump to "I make $20 an hour and you can too" scam during the recession, and then jump to "free download" ads when people catch on. What's the real link? That can be hard to figure out, but you should, cause if you don't the consequences could be horrendous. Download Avast from here.
even though this topic is old, i would like to add my opinion/experience ( it's about mobile, but still it will be useful) My point is to never use a free software, especially security ones. I was using CleanMaster for a couple of month and thought that everything is fine (only thing that was bugging me was the pop up ads). Then I came across an article on Forbes about malware antivirus on Google store ( they were referring to this research https://vpnpro.com/blog/free-antivirus-apps-requesting-danger... ) I have deleted CleanMaster instantly, as it was no good.
Long story short - free is bad and never rely. Same goes to PC antivirus. This free companies still have to profit from something, and they sell your data, infest you with viruses and so on. Just choose good, verified providers.
