Topic: My 3DS Isn't Detecting My Wi-Fi Router Any Tips?

I just got my 3DS back from Nintendo for repairs and although they fixed the broken shoulder button it still is unable to recognize my router's wi-fi signal. I've tried setting the proxy settings which did work, but caused my mother's laptop and my Wii U to be unable to get online. Does anyone have any ideas of what can be done about this issue?

I have trouble with mine (and New 3DS) too, I have to manually set the IP address; mask; DNS settings etc. before it can connect. Every other device can get them automatically, when I do this manually for the 3DS it only works then. There is definitely something screwed up with the way the 3DS's OS negotiates connection to Wi-Fi networks IMO.

Occassionally this will happen to me, I just unplug and replug my router and it connects.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Also when the 3DS goes in sleep mode for a long period of the time (e.g. a day) the OS makes no attempt to check whether its connection to the Wi-Fi network is still alive. Most routers will drop the collection after this period of time. The 3DS will regardless seem to still attempt to use the network as if its connection is open/valid and has to be turned off and on in order to re-establish the connection. This is why I think there are some issues with the OS with regard to Wi-Fi networks.

All my 3DS's including my new one work perfectly fine with our internet. Wondering if you need to change the channel on the router?

The issues are definitely not that, these problems are occurring post connection and during obtaining the network handshaking details such as ip, dns etc. with the router (and can be manually inputted meaning the network is seen and has a good enough signal to communicate with).

The problems I mentioned (not the OP) have occurred for me with 3 different brands of router/wi-fi station (Netgear, Huawei, Apple, resetting them does nothing), only with Nintendo products and on uncrowded channels. I have to conclude there is something flaky with the 3DS software since I can force a connection by manually assigning everything and don't get a problem with anything else. Don't know about the Wii U since I use a wired connection for it (although it has no problem getting an IP address etc. automatically via that route).
