@ThanosReXXX Yeah but in fairness you can't assume that everyone is going to import a system from another region. Yeah it might be common but you can guarantee that everyone does it? Besides as I said that was a problem with the past Nintendo consoles. Also not many people are willing to go buy an adapter just to play a free game. Anyway, I think it's more of a logistics problem nowadays more then anything else.

@Tasuki That adapter for the power plug is hardly going to cost you anything, since it's just a bog-standard $4/€4 cable with a plug, so you can't convince me that's going to be a deal breaker...

And yes, I was over-exaggerating a bit with the importing consoles part, but I was hoping you would get the point of it being ridiculously easy to get any appliance from another region working in your own region, which would make the whole "can't send a UK console to another region because it would be useless" or the region-locked stuff in general a moot point.

And it was indeed already irrelevant to begin with, because it mostly counted for older generation consoles, like you also said.

@Maxz if the NL staff do get anything, it'll only be promo stuff like badges, lanyards, pens, and posters. I'd hardly say it's worth running a competition for those. Besides, the NL staff don't get paid a wage for doing what they do here, so ayou can't really deny them a few little perks.

@dizzy_boy Oh, I was being completely flippant!

I meant, if the OP thought the act of 'giving stuff away' was somehow greedy, that must mean holding onto something you actually own is just greed on another level.

Don't worry, I don't actually begrudge the NL staff for what they do! Quite the opposite.

@Maxz Ah, ok. My bad then.
I know some of the NL staff have a stand at EuroGamer expo each year. That's always a good opportunity to bug them for some goodies.

I agree with NL’s position. Shipping internationally is expensive and a pain, and you can’t ignore that there are countries whose customs and parcel system help a lot of packets go “missing”.

Now, if they ever do a contest for something like a digital code for a game now, I hope that can be open to all, since the Switch is region free and it doesn’t require shipping!

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Hey everyone,

So, we only do competitions when prizes are made available via a third party - it's been extremely rare that we've just bought something ourselves to give away.

Whenever we're given something as a prize, there are usually some strings attached by the provider as to who it can be given to. As an example, whenever we've had items from Nintendo UK they have stipulated that it must be given away to someone in the UK. This is not just logistics, it's also not to step on any toes as to what Nintendo France, Nintendo Spain or Nintendo Europe are doing - they all try to operate independently. Whilst it's physically possible to ship to Europe, if Nintendo UK want their prize going to one of their "customers", rather than in Europe - that's their call.

Anyway, we just want to give away some stuff for free (we often cover postage costs ourselves) and if the provider has some wishes, we simply respect them.

Also being UK based means we get more love from UK based companies, that's just the way it works sadly. We'd love to do more for other countries... but I imagine we'd just get more complaints

Cheers!

Ah I see. Now things become a lot more clear. Yeah if Nintendo's the one being greedy here then there ain't a lot you guys can do about that. Thanks for the info. I appreciate the honesty and the time you took to inform me in regards to this matter.

@antdickens Fair enough, thanks for explaining. Definitely cleared the whole why concerning these competitions.
