One thing I've often wondered, is how people are able to embed images into their posts (particularly, stuff that they have saved onto their computer, 3DS, phone, or tablet gallery)?

well you have to upload the image... not in NL, in any image hosting site. and then get the image's URL and then do this:
[ im g] url here [/i mg]
(without any of the spaces)
