Tell them that you're interested in the features the GamePad can bring and the library of games the Wii U can offer.

That's why people buy consoles in the first place. The features of the hardware and the software lineup. If you try to work anything else in there, you're messin' up.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Thanks Tasuki your advice has been extra helpful and I do not want to even try to tell the education benefits because last time I did they told me how school is a much better info source than games which is correct but my mom KILLS me about games and I am surprised she did not veto this console...(Probably since it's too cool to veto XD) My dad is my better hope despite normal families

Np. If the cost is the big problem telling them about the software and how the games are education or non violent compared to games on the PS4/Xbox One isn't going to convince them that its economical. By at least saving up half of the money for it it will make you look very responsible and it looks like you are trying to help bring down the cost.

I know when my son wants a game he offers to trade in game put his allowance towards it etc before asking me and I haven't even used the coast factor of a game to deny him one but then again hes just that way.

Anyway I wish you luck.

I bet your mom was happy that you want the least expensive of the three "new" consoles, which is why she didn't say much about it.

Your best bet would probably to say you'll take it as a birthday and Christmas gift or as a Christmas and "I'll get good grades this year even after I get the system or else you can take it away from me."

Going the refurbished route is not a bad idea but it only comes with nintendo land. I believe you still have to account for sales tax and five bucks for shipping. You will still need some way to convince them to buy you hyrule warriors and/or windwaker.

Another question would be if your parents have any prior experience with games or if they're interested in the few apps the Wii U brings along with it.
I know if mine didn't have a browser with their TV they'd definitely be interested in having the Wii U one.
Along with Scribblenauts, NES Remix, Nintendo Land, Wii Fit U, Art Academy: SketchPad, the Wii Sports "remakes", the Virtual Consoles, Wii games, the eShop, WiiWare, Donkey Kong Country Returns and the typical Mario and Lego games there's more than enough to make it a really great family console imo.
