You have to use the ^ symbol (Shift + 6) in-between a string of words. Example: Small words are small.

Read through this, I know you got your answer but there's lots of other info in there. (I don't think making text small is there, incidently). ~ makes text small at the bottom. hello ^ makes text small at the top. hello

It's not necessary, but, if you want, here's a way you can type even smaller: :3 Just input either ~ or ^, then use the brackets with the word "sub", and voila. Hooray for tiny text! Hope I wasn't mean. =(
@zez - there is a way to make text bigger. Before and after a set of words, insert four = signs (two in the front, and two in the back). That way, the text will get bigger.
