I'm trying to hook the wii up to the internet. I bought a Rocketfish Gaming Wii LAN adaptor yesterday and can't get the wii to connect. I've tried plugging it into the modem (its a cable modem that my TV, internet and phone all come thru) but it doesn't get a connection. Do I have to have a router for the adaptor to work? Help please!

You might have to consult with the modem's manufacturer, or you have a bad LAN adaptor or ethernet wire. I can connect my Wii to the DSL modem at my house without any trouble

Try a different ethernet cable before doing anything else. The one you're using now could be bad.

I've used one and it worked fine with me. The trouble is your modem. You need to unplug it (power source), hook the LAN adaptor up, and then plug it (modem) back into the power source. After the lights quit flashing (if your modem does this), test the connection - it should be fine. When you hook the wired connection back up to your laptop, you might have to unplug the modem and go through the same process with it.
Hope this helps

Reset your modem with the ethernet wire plugged in it

That worked! Thanks a lot guys for your help. I was getting frustrated and pissed off! I did have to shut the modem down and restart and then restart again to get the connection back to the computer but at least I know I won't have any problems downloading any games when I want.

Thanks again!
