Topic: HDMI/Component Issues // Wii U

Having purchased the Wii U shortly after launch, I've never had a problem with it till recently.

I believe my issue is that the HMDI port is burnt out, but I am looking for a second opinion. I called Nintendo about how I cannot use the Wii U in HD since I am not getting any signal from the console to the television. I have been able to use the Wii U through my old Wii cables, but unfortunately 480p feels and looks terrible. The gentleman at Nintendo told me that the problem was not the HDMI port if the Wii U was still transmitting video through the Wii cable. I was told that I could ship the Wii U over to Nintendo, but at this time my heart and budget disagrees with the $150 needed to be paid so my $300 console could have a look at.

Things that I have done:

Use the PS4 HDMI cable on the Wii U, as well as a new one.
Use the HDMI cable in different ports.
Buy a component cable from Gamestop to switch to HD like the Xbox360 does.
Press buttons and pray.
Play in 480p.

Of course, shipping the console to Nintendo will ultimately be my last stop, since I am emotionally attached to my Wii U, but I am hoping I can get some help from someone/anyone who can be my hero.

tl;dr I can't use the Wii U in High Def.

@Br0kenSaint58 that's annoying.

Has it /never/ worked? or did it stop working at some point?
Have you tried the Wii U on a different TV via HDMI? (with a cable you know is working)
Did you use the Wii U on another TV and forget to change the settings back? Sometimes if you've used it on a 1080p TV and then go to a 720p TV it won't auto switch back.

If it's not working on another TV then it's probably a problem with the console itself, don't give in to the BS answer from Nintendo.

I most certainly did! Would that really make a difference though?

As @antdickens said, different TV? Was there a power outtage/surge at your place recently? Is the Wii U in a place that is well ventilated so that Overheating isn't a possible cause for damage to the HDMI port?(on the system board) Did it happen to be subject to any physical damage recently, I.E fallen from it's cradle or from it's shelf, maybe pulled on the hdmi cord via accidental tripping. Just trying to cover possible causes.

I appreciate it thank you.
So...
On a different TV, it still didn't work.
I live on a Hospital Grid, so our power never goes out! lol
It's well ventilated, or at least as far as I am aware. It's on top of a table.
And damage, not that I know of. I just moved into my apartment a while back, but it was working then. Other than that, it hasn't moved.

If the HDMi port was not at faulty, why could you not use it?
I'd send it to Nintendo and see what their engineers say.

What I was told was that it could not be the video output because I am able to get signal through the AV cable. Then I asked if it could just be the port, and he gave me a pretty firm no.

And that looks like what I'll be stuck doing. $150 repair for a $229 console. :/

oh well. Just an FYI, not all HDMI cables are created equal, so even if you got a new one it might not work...If you happen to have another buddy with the official nintendo HDMI cable give it a shot. If not, guess you're stuck with a repair bill. Or a shot in the dark, leave it unplugged for a few days and try again after that.(i mean power wise.)

Gotcha. Thanks for the tips!

It may be covered by the twelve month warranty?

I bought the baby back in 2013. Nintendo though is nice enough to include a 1 year warranty after repair, so there is always that.
