Topic: Have a problem contecting my Wii to the internet

I recently got a router with WiFi capablity and I have tried to connect my Wii using the Wi Fi. I hooked it up with the WPA code and all that and I got it to work but now whenever I want to connect to the internet with my Wii either to stream movies from Netflix or Download a VC game or play a game online I have to go and turn off the router wait 30 seconds than turn it back on and than my Wii will contect.

Now I also have my wife's laptop as well as another computer hooked up to the internet via Wi Fi but I dont have to turn the router off whenever I want to get online with them.

Anyone ever had this happen to them and if so what are some suggestions I can do to fix this problem.
Thanks in advanced for any suggestions.

I've never had this problem, but could your wife's laptop and your other computer be interfering with the connectivity of your Wii?

I'm back (for the moment)!

Tasuki

I dont think thats the problem cause I have had to turn the router off than on when the Wii was the only thing on at the time.

No I dont have it on all the time. Only when I am playing games or streaming Netflx do I have it on.

Well, it sounds like it could be a DHCP issue. Try giving your Wii a fixed IP address and see if that helps.

I'm having some trouble with my router and I'm hoping someone could help with it. There is absolutely no problem with my internet connection when I don't have the router hooked up, but when it is hooked up my computer cannot connect to the net and neither can my DSi or Wii. The signal is there and has full bars but for some reason it's not connectable (sorry for my lack of technical terms.) Any idea what's wrong with it? Is there anything I can do besides getting a new router?

sounds like there's something up between your router and everything else, probably security settings and stuff. Have you set the router up software-wise yet, or did you just plug it in thinking it'd work automatically?

It's the same router I've been using to play MHT online so yes I set up the settings and all that and for awhile it was working but it isn't now...

EDIT: I started having trouble staying connected with it a few days ago and I accidently pressed the reset button on the router causing my settings to be erased but I did go back redo the settings, after that it was working the same.

did anything else change about your network? did you add new devices, or did someone else mess with the settings?

i think i'd try setting it up completely fresh, as if you'd just gotten the router. reset everything back to the factory defaults and go from there.

edit: okay, didn't see that edit, lol -- are you sure the letters are correct for your network devices? the wii uses b/g, but the DS uses b only, and idk what your computer may or may not be compatible with. i've had that problem before with our router, lol.

As far as I know, nope nothing new. The only thing that was different was that a few days ago I could connect my wii but I kept getting kicked off every 5 minutes.
EDIT: Yep, I'm sure the letters were right, I got this router specifically for my wii and ds and it worked without fail for almost a year, when I reset it I did everything the same way.

Guess I'll have to redo the settings again then.

yeah, maybe you missed something on accident. too bad your router doesn't let you save profiles (ours does, i believe), you could've saved your settings profile and just reloaded it when you accidentally reset things :3

Check with your ISP to see if they changed anything with their servers, or just reset your router and redo the settings

Sorry to bug people with more questions but now I have a new problem with my internet. The router is working now but I have trouble getting and staying on. We did have a problem with our internet in general but now that part seems to be fixed. Now when I try to get on it takes several tries just to get it connected and once I do get on it usually kicks me off within 5 to 10 minutes. On rare occasions it will finally connect and stay connected for an hour or 2.

When i have trouble it sometimes tells me to check the settings on my wii (I know I have the correct password so it's not that) other times it said it may be a firewall problem and a lot of the time it just says disconnected due to network instability.

I have no idea what the problem is and I don't know too much about routers but I did recently change it from WEP to WPA so maybe it's a problem with the settings? I would really appreciate some help.

Maybe something is interfering with the signal. Try reconnecting to ur wifi connection point.

HolyMackerel

Hmm it may be something to do with WPA. I think you have to configure it to allow specific devices like your computer and Wii... I've never used WPA before (thanks to my DS) so I'm not really sure.

Have you tried using a lan conection superpeach? Thats what I use for my ps3 just string a ethernet cable to the modem. I think you have to buy some adapter for the wii though. I used to use wireless conection but even though I was room away from router thing it would go out alot or get laggy so now I use wired

BUY SOMETHIN WILL YA!
