Topic: Can you disable ads?

Seriously, I am so ******* fed up with the advertisements on the right side of the page, ESPECIALLY that "1 Trick of a tiny belly" thing. Is there any way for regular users to disable those annoying ads? If not, can the admins stop this madness? I want the advertisements out of my sight. > : (

The ads are how NL pays for itself to stay up and running. If they bother you that much, use AdBlock or some other ad-blocking plugin for your browser, as there is no option to not view ads that you can set on the site itself.

i would recommend only blocking the annoying ones like that one though, so you can still support nintendolife.

If you want to pay a subscription charge to cover our running costs, sure we can get rid of adverts. Otherwise, they are here to stay - running this site costs £1000s, so without adverts we wouldn't be able to exist.

I don't see why it's such a big deal. Just don't look at them. It's not like it's attacking the entire screen.

I'd like to see those go away, because it's difficult to ground the mouse for wheel-scrolling when 80% of the page is an advertisement (Pong Toss Pro was full-page, there have been a few others as well).

That's true. And it's kind of annoying, I guess, but they're not covering anything; it just makes the page a little more cluttered.

Like TBD said, I use AdBlock, and I never see ads anymore.

I very rarely see ads strangely enough, it's usually a blank box with Nintendolife. There was a Metroid: Other M one a minute ago though.

I'd rather have ads, they remind of games that I might have forgotten and as stated above by James it's an essential part of the site.

I hope you people using ad block realise that you're actually harming the site that you visit.

Advertising-supported websites earn income based on how many people view ads. If you block the ad, the website earns no money from you.

You would think a minor irritation to keep a website you like going would be acceptable. But there really are people out there that want everything, and give nothing in return.

@Staff Today while browsing the site I, an ad from VoiceFive is popping up in the middle of the screen. I am not "rolling over to expand"/clicking any of the banners. The ad just sashays to the middle of the screen when I load a new page.

I know that the staff here work hard to keep ads from interfering with using the site (ie. no auto audio playback), but an ad that practically forces you to click it to see the center of the page is downright annoying. Anyway, I think I've done my bit to alert you guys. Do with it what you will.

@shinesprite: if you can, get a screengrab of the offending ad and send it to the admins via the Contact Form. that's the only way Ant can do anything about it for you.
