@user If I were you, I'd go with a good set of component cables instead.
I have used both, and in my opinion, component offers a better picture than HDMI.
That also has to do with the fact that most HDMI solutions for the Wii, have distorted screen sizes,
either because of the upscaling method used, or the fact that there's an extra adapter between the Wii and the TV screen, whereas the component cable is a direct connection from console to TV. (provided of course, that your TV does have component output. Just check the back for blue, red and green inputs)
But, if you're not sure, you could try out both methods yourself, they really aren't that expensive.
For the converter, you obviously also need an HDMI cable, so you will either have to have a spare one lying around, or you'll need to buy that as well.
Good luck.

I just use the in box stuff on my roku TV and streeeetch the resolution. Works fine enough for my Kirby's Retrurn to Dreamland and Mario Galaxy 2 let's plays, so I guess I have proof if you want to see what that looks like.

I do stupid stuff on youtube.com/mysticbros, so check it out if your bored or whatever.
Or don't, it's your time after all.
I'd stick with the cables or the converter. A far easier solution, and much cheaper too, but great results regardless. Hard-modding can be tricky, so besides you not having to be afraid to open up the Wii, you should also be VERY aware of what you're doing when installing stuff like this.
