Topic: A few Wii U external hard drive questions.

So my Wii U is getting full and I'm thinking about buying an external hard drive for it.
Some questions I have are:

  • Does any HD brand work? Or is it specific brands only?
  • What's the maximum capacity can I use? 500G? 1TB? 2TB?
  • Do the external hard drive need it's own power source?
(I've heard some people say that USB-powered HD needs a Y cable adapter for it to be able to work.)
  • After I format the HD for the Wii U, can I still use it for other applications such as using it to store stuff on my PC/Laptop? Or is it dedicated to the Wii U once I format it for it?

That is all,
Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Some brands work better than other but its should be any brands.

I'm not sure about the maximum capacity but I using 1 TB right now.

It is recommend that external hard drive need own power source. Sometime the hard drive need more power to operate faster which may be required by Wii U.

It is dedicated to the Wii U once you format it but... I haven't try any experiment including partitions.

Hope some of these help.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

After format for WiiU, there is no coming back - this HDD will work on WiiU only, no partitions or anything. The maximum is 2TB, but they already said that they will work towards more.

I would say that 500GB is more than enough - 1TB is overkill.
