Topic: 3DS eShop Blank Screen Problem - Is there a fix?

I bought Pokemon X recently after a couple of months of not using my 3DS and started playing with it again. Things were going great, I got a good start on the game, beat the first gym leader, etc.

Afterwards, I realized there was a 3DS update that I had neglected to install before (Version 7.1.0-16U. Keep in mind it had been a good number of months since I turned on the 3DS, so there was a fair amount of stuff to be done. I don't remember exactly what version the 3DS was on before, but if it's any indication, it downloaded Miiverse on it, so it was before the inclusion of that.) I installed the update with no issue and was about to go back to playing Pokemon X when it prompted me for a software update of the game available through the eShop.

When I tried opening the eShop, it brought up the loading screen, but also overlapped the loading screen with the Club Nintendo sign in screen. Since I don't have a Club Nintendo, I selected skip, which cause both overlapped screens to disappear and leave me with a blank screen (minus the eShop background.) I tried letting the double screen sit for about 5 minutes to no avail and entering the eShop through different methods, which also didn't work. I tried searching up a fix for the problem, but all I could find was to "remove the sd card then in settings reformat the 3ds." I'm reluctant to do this however as it would result in a loss of my saves (or so the post said).

Of course, I don't need the update to continue playing the game, but I can't use the online mode because of it, or enter into the eShop. I've searched the internet for a good hour or two with no reasonable fix. I was wondering if maybe there was something I overlooked that would fix my problem? And if so then what it would be.

EDIT: As well I read that people with Club Nintendo accounts also had the same end result, so I'm not sure if I should try that.

Are you sure it was asking you to sign into a club Nintendo Account, or a Nintendo Network ID? After the Miiverse update, you are required to create a Nintendo Network ID in order to download anything from the eShop. It should have promted you to make one right after the update though, and I think you should still be able to access the eShop without a NNID... If you haven't though, you should be able to do that in your settings, or maybe even by trying to go into Miiverse, and then it will start the process. If you've already created a NNID though, I'm really not quite sure what the problem could be. :/

I checked again and it is indeed prompting me for a Club Nintendo Account. However that did remind me to link my 3DS with my Nintendo ID, so that's a plus I guess.

Anyways after linking the Nintendo ID to make sure that wasn't the problem, I tried opening the eShop again, but the loading screen and Club Nintendo sign in screen still overlap each other and still cancels loading/sending me to a blank screen when I select to skip it. Letting it sit on the overlayed screen also changed nothing.

Well, you should probably try calling Nintendo's Tech Support, it's really good! If they can't come up with a solution though, try signing withought entering any information or information that you know doesn't link to a real account. That might somehow allow you to properly cancel out of the Club Nintendo sign in. Keep in mind I'm really just guessing here, so I really don't know what would happen. For all I know it could make things worse. (Though I highly doubt it)

I'll probably end up calling them if a possible trail I might've found ends cold.

Anyways, after trying your idea (no change) , I got the idea to try a system transfer to my 3DS XL to see if that might change something. Before the transfer, the eShop worked perfectly fine. Everything loaded normally, I could browse the shop freely, and it opened up every time I tested. Que system transfer.
Once the transfer was finished I tried opening the eShop again... And the problem came back. I'm thinking either there's a problem with the settings I had set on my other 3DS or there's a problem with the eShop that was downloaded on it. I don't really know which settings to try or how to redownload the eShop back onto the system if I decide to try that, but I'll poke around a bit.

If nothing changes after, I'll try calling tech support and see if they can solve it.
