The total distortion game over that I posted on the other page is my second fave game over. My first would be the death scene you get when you first get a game over in Conker's bad fur day when you first meet Greg the grimm reaper.
I find it hysterical in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped where, if a frog kills Crash, he'll attempt to kiss Crash and the frog turns into a prince. I love that!!!
N+ - When you hit an explosion, all your body parts fly everywhere and cause more explosions, until it causes an epic chain reaction! Death has never been more satisfying.
This is a good one, and old one, and a bit of a long one. It had a long lasting effect on me (first saw it nearly 20 years ago!!!), still count it as one of the all time most memorable deaths in video games....
also, can somebody explain how to embed videos from youtube? For everybodys convenience!
Shame that nodody has mentioned Maniac Mansion - that game was hilarious, and both the ways that characters could die and the "game over" story ending were awesome. I'd love to see this game revisited on WiiWare (or any other digital service) with better graphics. Not sure how much the controls could be improved due to the long list of possible actions... but it's the kind of retro gem that would be good no matter how it gets released.
And for the record, my favorite death was giving Ed back his toasty hamster bits... then playing as a ghost of your former character.
