This is obviously my opinion, but I've been kinda disappointed by movies released over the last few years - this year in particular. Especially if you don't like superhero movies, the pickings are pretty slim. So naturally I turn to the ol' back catalogue.

I'm having a hard time lately determining whether or not the movies I used to like (when I was younger) are actually any good by MY standards today, or if my tastes have just changed over the years.

I tried to introduce my gf to watch "the Waterboy", a favourite from my youth. I thought the movie held up and I had many laffs, but she thought it was terrible. I don't think any Adam Sandler movie in the last 15 years has been good, but I can't tell if I would enjoy it had I not seen it young.
People grow up obviously, but I'm in my mid twenties now and I would STILL say stupid and zany comedy is my favourite thing so I'm not so sure I've become mature or anything like that.

Have you watched a nostalgic movie lately you felt the same? Or maybe worse, you found out a movie you used to love is actually pretty terrible?

I've rewatched many a movie over and over again, and for the most part they've held up well. I did see some movies that I loved before but find it not that special on rewatching, such as The Lion King, but there's far more movies that still is as great as they were ages ago. Lots of 90s western cartoons (Tale Spin, Animaniacs, Gargoyles, Beast Wars Transformers etc) that I've rewatched lately are still just as awesome as before, but I can't say the same for 80s cartoons.

The Lion King has a lot of musical numbers that I seem to forget about often. (I still love it though)
I sometimes worry the same thing about the old great Simpsons episodes... do I dislike the new ones because I didn't see them young? Or because they're just not as good?

Also, Gargoyles!!!
