I personally haven't played 10, but I have still highly enjoyed what I have played (even though I'm more of a casual fighter fan, and enjoy messing around with the characters in training mode & quick exhibition matches more than anything). Even as a more casual fighting fan, I still spend a lot of time on fighters, so I always feel like I get my money's worth.
6. Samurai Showdown II (Neo Geo Wii VC) - I absolutely suck at this one (even on the easiest difficulty, I choke after the 5th fight), but I still enjoy it nonetheless, and fire it up from time to time. (Favorite characters: haven't found any)
5. Street Fighter II: the World Warrior (SNES) - If you grew up in the 16 bit era, you probably had at least one version of Street Fighter II, and this was mine. I still remember how good it felt to finally beat M. Bison (albiet on easier difficulty levels). I still fire it up every once in awhile, for a bit of nostalgia. (Favorite characters: Ryu, Ken, Chun Li)
4. Capcom VS SNK 2 (GCN) - What this game lacks in gameplay modes, it makes up for with lots & lots of characters. I had actually worked my way up to beat Akuma (or Rugal, depending on who you were playing as), but could never beat their special forms. It's still a great game, though. (Favorite characters: Ryu, Mai, Chun Li, Terry, Rock, Morrigan)
3. Bleach: the Blade of Fate (DS) - For a licensed title, this is a really solid game (and better for fans of the series). It's actually the only 2D fighter I've 100% completed. I actually beat all of the story scenarios during a long summer car trip up to Mount Rushmore a few years ago, lol. (Favorite characters: Ichigo, Hollow Ichigo, Kon, Toshiro, Uryu, Byakuya, Soi Fon, Yoruichi)
2. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (3DS) - It may not be the definitive version of the game, but it was great for what I wanted. I'm not very good online, but that doesn't keep me from having fun online, and I've beaten arcade mode with all the characters (albiet at an easier setting). It's also the very first (and still one of the few) 3DS game I've played for over 50 hours. (Favorite characters: Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Ibuki, Chun Li, Akuma, Gouken, Cammy, Dudley, C. Viper, Seth, Dan, Guy)
1. Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (Wii) - I just love how flashy this game is, and yet how fundamentally sound it is as well. I'd say it's a great game for both casual fighting fans (like myself), and more tenured veterans. (Favorite characters: Ryu, Chun Li, Batsu, Tekkaman Blade, Karas, Morrigan)

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3: This game is just so freaking fun. It's so hype, new tech is always being discovered each day, and there's still many tournaments going around. My main team is Spider-Man (yup, I'm one of the few people that use him ), Hawkeye, and Dr. Doom.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Such a fun party fighter. Spent crazy amount of hours with my friends. This game get's really crazy on a competitive level. Trust me, I played in a tournament. D: idk if this would be considered traditional though...
SSFIITHDR: It's just classic Street Fighter that's fun to play with friends. I've yet to play 4 yet and 3 was kind a weird with the parrying so... yea!
Skullgirls: It's like a better version of Marvel 2 imo. It's really polished and fun to play. I use Filia cause she's got an airdash and she's a good rushdown character.
Persona 4 Arena: This game is just so unique. On paper, it just doesn't work. rpg-like status problems, one button auto combos, and two health gauges (one for you and one for your persona). and etc. Luckily it actually does work and it's so fun. Haven't played much yet though.
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Didn't really want to choose two in the same series but this game is just really fun. Too bad the online sucks. Its one of the few fighters that I find enjoyable alone for some reason.
So, uh yea. I can only choose like 5 since I don't really want to choose games from the same series... Though I hope to try out Blazblue, Guily Gear, and maybe even KoF sometime soon!
Well he is asking 2D fighter specifically here.
And he made that thread. I think he could have found it if he wanted to.
I remember making that thread, but I honestly couldn't remember how long ago it was (it seems like threads dissapear after a week of non activity). I also have a heck of a time searching for past threads (there are some threads of my own I can't find, even if I type in the name word for word in the search bar).
With that said, if @TBD thinks this thread is too close to the original, she can close it. If not, even better

The only 2D fighter that I know and played is International Karate for the Commodore 64. That was quite funny when played in 2 player mode. And the graphics/animations were impresssive for the time. My favourite background was the Pyramid of Giza because it reminded me of Bomb Jack.
