Ever seen a game review so terrible wrong it literally made you want to scream at the reviewer WTF?Me, yeah one really takes the cake. Official Playstation Magazine gave Bionic Commando PS3 a review score of 2.5 out of 5. After picking the game up months later for $20 bucks new I literally wanted to scream at the reviewer because the game is well worh a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. The review stated the game was nearly unplayable and broken and the game is actually polished and a blast to play and hard as nails wich is true to the series. It does have some flaws but the review was way wrong and other reviews gave it upwards of 8/10. OPM eventually stated in a later magazine that they were overcritical to the game. Maybe they felt bad that they probaly were a big reason the company GRIN is now out of buisness.
..... Im curious to see if any of you guys that do reviews have ever seen one like this as well?

No, because reviews are generally based on opinion, and opinions can't be 'wrong', only 'misguided'.

(a) according to metacritic, they gave it a 2.5. Does metacritic have the wrong score up?
(b) Considering they (OPM) weren't the only ones giving that game a bad review/score, it looks like you've got more than just them to blame if it really was the reviews alone that ran GRIN out of business. :3

If you mean the PSN remake, that game is horrible, as was the original Bionic Commando. If you mean the 3D one, I honestly am not even sure if that's out yet, so I don't know. Either way, the only way they could be wrong is if they accidentally gave you someone else's opinion because all a review claims is that the reviewer thinks this way of the game, not that everyone will receive it the same way.

The 3D one has been out for a very long time now. And IMO, the original is a classic, as is its remake.

Hmmm...I guess so. But then, not everyone's going to share my opinion, but yeah. I do get frustrated sometimes with reviews and wish that some of the higher points of a game hadn't been ignored. Now, what really pains me, is trying to watch a "Professional" reviewer's gameplay walkthrough. Some of them anyway. I just cannot do it. They're too painful for me to watch. Even if I've never played the game before, it's so blatantly obviously what needs to be done in certain parts and what the most efficient method of gameplay is.Lol. It's actually not all that big of a deal, and I don't know if anyone else would feel that way, but I cannot watch some walkthroughs.

@theblackdragon..... thanks I hit the wrong button there it was a 2.5. The reviewer of the game did claim to be to harsh on the review as the review had a pretty big backlash on the internet towards the magazine at the time. GRIN also got very little money to make Wanted but did a pretty good job of a budget title with it as well. They said as they went under that the project they were currently working on would be a AAA title that was phenominal but we will never see it. I know that OPM didn't shut them down, but I do think that a big major magazine/website give a very low score the title will not sell as well. If it deserves it fine but in this case I just dont agree with the score.
@Adam.... Bionic Commando Rearmed is the remake of the Gameboy version of Bionic Commando and its incredible And it also includes unlockables toward the 3D Bionic Commando in wich the thread is reffered to. Overall they are two very fun titles.

are those the games where you use a little hook instead of jumping? Never played the original and didn't give the PSN demo much of a chance.....it seems to get a decent amount of love though. Worth the 10? Or more of a "you may wanna wait for a sale unless you're already a fan" kinda thing?

I waited for a sale, and I still regret it.

I dont think you will see a sale on it again as it was one of the few to get a trophy patch and a massive add on patch couple of months back. Its prob the best PSN title to date with hours upon hours of gameplay.

That 6.75 Game Informer gave Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door years ago, only because of it's "kiddie" nature and crappy story. I still haven't forgiven them for that...

"Wrong" review scores happen all the time. While you could just say its all subjective opinion and shouldn't really matter with people relying on metacritic more and more every score they use counts, especially for a game that just gets the minimum amount of reviews required for a metascore.
Almost every decent shmup these days gets a lower score than it should. I still get made looking at reviews for Ultimate shooting collection where reviewers lament the fact that Ikaruga isn't on it or its not as deep as Ikaruga. Ikaruga is cool and has a neat gimmick but isn't the only good modern shmup.

@jbrodack...... There is one thing here on Nintendo Life that I really REALLY like and that is that the game reviews are put into the genres perspective. Take TheBlackDragons review of Mini Ninjas for example. She scored it a 8/10 wich my first intial reaction was its too high from what I played in a demo, but you read the review wich was very thourough and she put it very plainly that it was geared toward a younger audience and when you put it in that perspective the score is dead on the money. Put it that way and (if I had kids) it would have been bought for them for Christmas this year. Game sold by reviewer. The Shantae review that Corbie did was also fantastic. He put the game in perspective from fans of the genre and gave the game a 10 if I remember correctly. That is another great example of NL doing this.

And I found a cure for cancer but people refuse to name me king of the world so now they'll never get it. Man, Grin had it right! It's easy to make claims you never have to back up!

Not sure how an opinion on something could be wrong ,as long as it's an honest opinion and critique of something. Not everyone enjoys the same thing. If the majority of reviewers rate a game/movie/book whatever highly then that is only a general concensus and doesn't mean that everyone will like it. Of course peoples opinions will be different ,that's what makes us unique. Best thing you can do is to make up your own mind
What's this bit for again?

@slapshot82I think the AAA title they were talking about was that Final Fantasy game they were working on.
