I know I wouldn't be able to be away from my dog for long. What kind of dog is it? Mine looks like this, only 1,000 times more pretty:
My dog is half-dalmation, half-blue heeler. He's a cutie, but he's dumb as a post, so he's not changing anyone's mind on the intelligence front. I love him to death, though. That's one of the hardest things about leaving. Is it hard to leave family? Yes, but they know you'll be coming back. Does my dog know that? I don't know, I just know he looked the saddest when I was leaving...

Oh, I'm not saying that it's a bad thing for anyone to get a pet (dog or cat) to keep them company. I've even known a couple nice cat-ladies, and other people who treated their dog a little too much like a human, and it's just amusing and endearing, if anything.
