I've picked up hitchikers on two seperate occasions. both over 12 years ago and in well populated areas in broad daylight. The first time it was two skanky chicks... who turned out to be hookers. After telling them I had no money (seriously, the one time in my working life I didnt even have my wallet with me this happens) they just asked to be dropped off at a fast food joint a mile down the road. If it had been a payday, what could of been. Probably a good thing I was broke. The second time was an older guy who looked pretty harmless, and back then I probably looked kinda scary so I think he was more wary of me. I gave him a ride about an hour out of town and lent him 10 bucks. I drive across the midwest US alot and every one i've seen since sets off my alarms, but you'd hate to think your passing up someone who could really use a strangers help at that moment.
