It's because they don't have Princess Peach, so they need to make up for it.
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...
I feel really sorry for anyone who needs this service. Clearly they've never played Strip Smash Brothers with a group of attractive woman and have to settle for a half-bit second (that website.)
There are some shady profiles on the site. Here's what one of them says: "I was born in Russia and come to UK 5 years ago. I am different to other girls. OK, all girls think that. But, where else can you find beauty, sophistication, fun and charm, all in one deliciously wrapped package? And I love to PLAY GAMES...I I'm sure to set your pulse racing. I like the good things in life and always expect to be treated like a lady. I take you away from the stress and strain of everyday life. Look no further." Yep, definitely some shady ladies on there. Is that good or bad?

I don't get how this reflects badly on the girls. If someone wanted to pay me to play video games online and put up with a social reject who is afraid to talk to real people, I'd go for it. They keep 60% of whatever cash comes in for talking trash and playing games - sweet deal for them!
For guys, it's kind of sad though. Paying for companionship (not sex) isn't unheard of... but why not find someone to game with in real life? Is the target market guys with no social skills, or just guys looking to get their flirt on when their girls aren't looking? Because any single guy I've met with enough cash to throw away for "intimate" online gaming sessions should have better ways to find someone to talk with.

To be fair the same could be said about men's magazines (why not just get a real girl to look at) and phone-sex lines (why not just have real sex with a real girl). Etc etc.
Firstly, not every man is comfortable with speaking to the opposite sex. Yes, it's sad in a way, but it's a fact of life. There's a real fear towards being social with some people.
Moreover, not every man wants to go through the bells and whistles of finding someone to game with. It's work to meet someone, develop a relationship with them, and then play games. For instant gratification, there's this service. Just like how some men would rather use a brothel than meet someone to have an intimate relationship with. Some people just want the end effect without the set-up work, and are willing to pay for it.
Not that I don't think people that use this service are sad, because they are. Just playing devil's advocate - there are genuine, and good reasons why people might find use in a service like this.

Only genuine.
Well, good from their perspective. I mean, ultimately if you're happy with what you've paid for, then the service is "good". It's just that most rational people see it as a tad silly.
No, but I would totally dress up like a girl and get paid for playing said Halo. Halo just has green slime and not blood, right? Right?
You bring up a good point: Do they actually have to go over to people's houses, or do they just have to talk over the mic? Because I will break out my best impression of a girl if it means I get paid play Halo and talk to some sorry loser.
