Topic: Would You Ever Date Someone Who Don't Like Gaming?

Tbh, nearly anyone around my age has probably enjoyed a video game of some sort, so anyone actively hating them as a whole is likely just a weirdo.

...I'm not kidding. What type of weirdo nowadays hates such a wide reaching form of entertainment? That's just dumb and embarrassing.

More than what you think, sadly...

Even when I say that I'm making a game as a job, there are people(not all of'em sure) they sort of laught and say that I'm working for kids blablabla...
It's insane but a lot of people think like that : gaming == kids or nerdy weirdos.

Someone who hates gaming or would otherwise have a problem with it being a prominent hobby of mine? No way.

Someone who's not really interested in gaming but respects my interest in it? Of course.

This is all theoretical, of course. I have no real interest in dating OR mating, so I don't see it being an issue going into the future.

@kkslider5552000 To be fair, I actually do hate a lot of movies as a whole, although I'll enjoy my fair share of them here and there. If I want to watch something, I'll go on YouTube or play a game. If I want an extremely good story, I'll read a book instead.

But I realize a ton of people do watch and love movies, so I just say my piece and move on.

That said, I wouldn't say no to watching movies with an SO, just to please them. Though within my limits.

Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

This thread has been an interesting one. Many of the responses are more or less the same, but it's neat to see each user's different take on a situation like this.

@Zuljaras: I assumed as much; I used to create appropriate-sounding names for whatever race I played. That said, I haven't fully subscribed to WoW for years (though I did a FTP stint with my old account a couple years ago for a few months) and don't plan to anytime soon. It's not a time sink I want in my life right now. XD

I somewhat agree with this, but that kinda proves my point. If you don't like a lot of games, that's fine, but I can't imagine someone hating an entire entertainment medium like this. That just seems ignorant.

Like I don't care much about a good chunk of well liked movies. Honestly I only go to the movie theater for MCU movies and the occasional animated movie. And beyond that, I absolutely loathe the sort of Hollywood-like elitism that comes both from discussion of movies and other mediums compared to movies (especially the people who think all other mediums can only be great if they achieve the same things movies do, which deserves an entire book on how stupid that idea is). But if I just hated movies, I would be really stupid, short-sighted and self-absorbed I feel like. Like I'm not huge into Shakespeare and it probably has the same level of "the most important thing ever" elitism surrounding it, but I'm not gonna be a moron and pretend Shakespeare's works suck. Again, if I did, I would just be wrong.

It just seems profoundly ignorant. I don't like when people automatically hate genres IN games, you think I'd want to date someone who hates games as a whole?

and yeah this kinda became a rant, I just don't get people in general who broadly hate so much entertainment and art, barring maybe like...reality shows or something.

Most of the women I've dated don't like gaming... Nerd/Geekdom is so large and encompasses so many personality types (many very excessive/obsessive) that I really don't require a woman to be into it, because if I hold that up as a dating criteria, I usually end up with someone that takes it to an extreme that I find uncomfortable or unattractive (although I've been told I'm that person on occasion so I get it) so I'd rather find other common ground. As long as she doesn't hate it, I'm good. Now if she has an issue with science or glazes out if I talk about...GTFO.

Granted, aside from Lucifer and Agents of Shield, I haven't watched mainstream (or English) tv in over a decade so I tend to get weird looks when I state that I don't watch tv.

@riChchestM Congrats to you (and others here who'd been married for years). That itself is amazing (regardless of whether she plays or not). Hopefully more years to y'all.

Same. My usual reaction is to respond in kind, at least if it's cable TV. Seriously, who still watches commercial ridden cable TV that demands you plan your schedule around it if you actually want to get an interesting story? Or if you just want a passive time sink, there are so many better options, from podcasts, to livestreams, to internet-accessible sports and nerdier stuff like Roleplaying or online chess or card games that you can do one turn at a time....this is a fascinating era of entertainment.

I think this is probably more of a balance thing, I wouldn't want to be with somebody that loves or hates gaming to be honest. In my experience the majority of people that are into games/comics/movies/things like that are quite obsessive and dislike people who don't love the same things that they like. I don't really understand that, because we like technically like similar things but they put that wall up for some reason...

If someone hates something that you care about then that should be a warning, not knowing or understanding your interests is fine but they should at least respect it. I don't really watch TV, listen to music or have an interest in sports but I'm not against people that like those things, because 1 - I'm not that narrow-minded, and 2 - That would rule out most people

People like my parents, unfortunately. They still tape a weekday soap opera using VHS and fast-forward through all the commercials (They have satellite TV). I've tried explaining the wonders of aboit everything else to them. It's funny, because their hunt for VHS/DVD players is getting more difficult....

Once in a great while they'll watch it online via the official website of that network (can't recall which), and they still have to put up with commercials ads. Those sites are getting wiser about blockers unfortunately.
