No. This isn't a doom and gloom thread. In fact this is quite the opposite. Seeing the new DLC for Mario Kart, it's going to be hard to go back from here. I think it would be weird If the next game removes other Nintendo characters. So instead of a new Mario Kart, might the next entry be Super Smash Brothers: Kart? And with Amiibo now being a major product Nintendo is pushing, it only makes more sense to include all of those characters in a game together. What do YOU guys think?

I think Mario Kart will still exist in its standard form for on disc content and add other Nintendo stuff via DLC like they are doing for Mario Kart 8. This isn't the first time Nintendo has created Mario Kart with other franchises involved (see the MK Arcade GP series).

Plus R.O.B. was in Mario Kart DS. Speaking of which, hope he comes back in a later pack...if there will be a third pack, that is.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

A new Mario Kart will inevitably happen, as soon as Nintendo comes up with a new mechanic/gimmick to base the next entry on.
However, if they truly go for a general Nintendo racer, they better step up their presentation. Mario Kart is a very cartoonish and lighthearted series of games, something that inevitably clashes with some of the more serious games and characters Nintendo has.
So, instead of making Nintendo Kart, they should go for Nintendo Drive (tentative title), which isn't centered around karts, but bigger vehicles (cars, monster trucks, spaceships, stuff like that) that give it a more serious vibe. That wouldn't make characters like Fox, Samus, or Captain Falcon look out of place, while still having the means to get the more cartoonish characters in - by giving them the Brawl treatment (more detailed models, darker color palletes). Vehicles could be centered around transformations similar to Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing TRANSFORMED, but more detailed and visually impressive.
That said, even if Nintendo were going to do that, Mario Kart won't just disappear. It's too big of a brand to just abandon. If they're smart, Nintendo would keep Mario Kart and expand it differently from a universal Nintendo racing game.
And unless they want trouble with me, they better keep it Mario with MK8.

Of course we should see more MK8 titles. With future powerful consoles we would see and play more content, but I don't think a Nintendo Kart is coming son, if not AT ALL.
God first.

@Kaze_Memaryu oh god i love that image. sexual overtones galore.
I dunno why everyone's going yaoi over this. For me, it's the best idea a Zelda game could ever do - a genuine bro-level friendship between Link and Ganon.

This. The only thing that crossed my mind when I saw that picture is a brotherly kind of feel. Kind of like big bro teaching little bro how to fire an arrow.

In the Lego Batman games you can play as other DC characters, but the game is still called Batman because its a more popular brand then calling it Lego justice league. Same idea with Mario Kart. If the next Mario Kart game had other Nintendo characters (which it probably will since it would be a step back if they didn't) it would still be called Mario Kart because its a more popular brand then Nintendo Kart or Smash Kart.
