I'm sure many of you probably played Disney's legendary but short lived and yet very, very successful Virtual Magic Kingdom. Millions of gamers shuddered in dismay upon hearing that Disney was laying the axe to the root of VMK back on May 21, 2008.
Now a ray of light seems to be cresting the horizon as news is spreading rapidly that Jon Favreau the man behind Zathura and Iron Man has been selected by the Walt Disney company to produce "Magic Kingdom" a new movie that will explore what happens at Walt Disney World Resort after the sun sinks behind the evening horizon and the moon and stars ascend into the night sky. There seems to be speculation that the film will have a Nightmare at the Museum/ Jumangi vibe to it. My only question is will the Disney/ Hyperon "Kingdom Keepers" books have any effect on this movie? And I'd like to know if this means Kingdom Hearts will get either a movie or anime television series on either Disney XD or Cartoon Network? And more importantly will this spawn the revival our beloved "Virtual Magic Kingdom" at http://www.vmk.com?
Wow, I loved VMK a lot. Then, with the lack of innovation that often overcomes many MMOs, I got bored. I held out to the end though.
Anyway, I don't see VMK making a comeback. It was designed as a promotion for Disneyland's 50th B-Day that went way past how long it was supposed to last, garnering over 6,000,000 avatars over it's 2.5 year lifetime if I remember correctly. It wasn't extrordinarily fun, and, simply put, making no money at all whatsoever pretty much doomed it from the start.

Why the heck would you come up with this question from a movie about Disney World? You do know Square Enix owns part of Kingdom Hearts and, to my knowledge, there's not even an anime in Japan

The movie title "Magic Kingdom" has not to do with VMK. This movie you are referring to is really a movie based off a book for young people called The Kingdom Keepers: Disney after Dark. That book takes place at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
The movie title "Magic Kingdom" appears to based off the novel "The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark". The Kingdom Keepers: Disney after was released as book in 2005 and it was the first book of a series of Kingdom Keepers books. The Kingdom Keeper novels takes place at different Walt Disney World theme Parks depending on the novel.
Kingdom Keepers was submitted as a movie in 2006 and resubmitted in 2008. This appears to the next attempt to make Kingdom keepers: Disney after Dark as a movie, but under a different name.

Well there were talks a few years back between Disney and Square Enix regarding the potential of a Kingdom Hearts television series and movie but so far not much has been made known about what went down behind the scenes in regards to that issue.
Still, the makers of Kingdom Hearts have expressed interest in an anime as they already created a Kingdom Hearts manga which is distributed through TokyoPop.
BTW there is news on the web that there are talks at Disney to bring VMK back to life although it's suppose to have something of an optional subscription and cash shop like function to help fund the game.
