Topic: Wii U: It's an easy Sell

Sunday afternoon while out at target with family in tow, I came across a lady who was fumbling with the Wii U as her 2 kids (3, 5 1/2) were tearing her apart for not starting the 3D World Demo. So I sit back, hover around like a stalker(so not teaching my 2yr old that) until 1 of 2 sons begins to bite her.....I step in after that and ask if she needs any help, like a woman drowning in the ocean that is parenthood she begs me to get the demo thing started because she's old school and worked an atari long long ago. I start the demo for her and begin explaining to her what the system is about, how perfect it is for those demo---err little angels and the bundles available at target. Told her how PS4 and XBONE are mainly for the adult crowd judging from the nearby stand of Mature games. Showed her all the Wii/U Games and even the accessorries and amiibos. My Girlfriend jumps in and starts selling her on the MOM stuff( Wii Fit U) and before she finishes she's says stop. She starts looking for the sales guy and he pulls out the 3d world bundle and thanks us profusely. She grabbed the nerf casing for the gamepad and walks to register and purchases it as we wave good bye. Me and my girlfriend Fist bump and go "aww yeah". Son immitates "yesh". Glorious moment of our tiny family life.

TL:DR
Selling Wii U using my family to hapless mother of 2 in desperate need of assistance. New Wii U owner walked out of Target. Got any stories of convincing anyone to purchase a Wii U?

Holy frigging crap first off, LORD HAVE MERCY have those kids been mine, I'd send them off to military school or to do ballet
And i convinced my step dad to buy a Wii U for my little brother and sister. 😁 it was great because he was going to buy the XBONE thinking it was the better system, When I explained the what the Wii U was he understood and even told me that he thought it was a accessory for the Wii (I owned the Udraw Gamepad and he figured it was a upgrade of that) I told him that the kids are most likely to be distracted by Wii U and the XBONE and PS4 were very likely going to collect dust. Then the day after my little brother calls me up saying saying "OMGOOOOD BRO WE GOT A WII U"

NICE!! Yeah those kids were Grade A brats. Mom was a push over. Luckily for me there was no question this household was going to be a Nintendo Follower. All HAIL NINTENDO!!!!!

Same sort of thing happened to me in Toys R Us (UK). There was a mother, and her kid was playing the Wii U demo. The mother was confused as to what the Wii U was, so I explained it in a very similar fashion to you. Ten minutes later, and she's off at the counter, about to buy one

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

Great story. This kinda shows what a big chunk of the Wii U audience is.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I've seen the complete opposite. Two children asking about a Wii U game, to which their mother responded: ''That's for the Wii U, you don't have that system, we have a Wii.''

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.

I think overall this generation of consoles was horrible marketing wise, Nintendo should had went And named the Wii U the Wii 2 or at least Wii X or Super Wii or whatever, something that could establish it's a actual upgrade, Xbox One was also a horrible name but I guess it might not be that bad, then the New 3DS confuses the living hell out of everyone that is not a Nintendo fan. Sony was the only one that really did decent with the marketing at best, I see PS4 EVERYWHERE, but I can't lie I see a psp vita like once in a blue moon, and that's when I visit Gamestop and see one on display lol. Hopefully we get better marketing next generation to save ourselves from armies of confused parents lol

It's true. bad marketing. This lady had never owned a Wii, so the Wii U was new to her. Then again, her kids were barely around if at all when the Wii was still popular. As for the Vita, it's a tragedy. Sony just abandoned the platform.

Nice story. I'm this close to convincing one more friend to get a Wii U. I was on vacation last month, and hosted some quite long multi-man sessions of Smash U... which he can't stop talking about.

No need to rush it. Let it build up. Like a lobster in a slow cooked pot. gradually raising the temp till BAM, it's too late. He can't get wait to get one.

Is it just me, or did that sound kind of manipulative?

I got that feeling earlier in the thread when I mentioned his wife again

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Sure, but is it really so bad to manipulate someone into buying tangible happiness?

Exactly. It's not like it's manipulating someone into buying a bad system. The wii U is an excellent system with an excellent library.

Yeah, to me it's more like, people really don't know what they're missing. It's happened to me before: you know someone who doesn't even consider the possibility of buying a Nintendo platform these days, invite them over, and let the games themselves do the talking.

@ElkinFencer10 The "not-so-bad" is the enemy of the best option, which in my opinion would be simply to educate the person. Then they can make the decision best for them, instead of the decision you feel is best for them.

Why do these threads keep happening? And why do people feel like they have to be Nintendo reps trying to hustle people to buy Nintendo products?

Different strokes, different folks I guess. When I'm out shopping I prefer to mind my own business and others theirs.
