Some of you guys think sex is repressed? How much more in your face can it be?

Just ask yourself how much negativity is attached to it.

I just don't see the negativity associated with it when everything in our culture is so sexualized.

To contrast, there are dozens of T.V shows that air on prime time where people are horribly murdered yet showing the naked human form on the same shows would for some reason be completely unacceptable.

Oh man, don't remind me of those. I had two sisters and grew up in the 90s. I could probably give you a season by season synopsis of at least three of them.

Sexuality is repressed. You know how many strip joints are being closed down in my city for the fact that there are named women inside and not because they smell like crushed dreams food posioning.

WAT!

Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

Are you equalting sexual repression due to the lack of naked people on TV? I know you wre pointing out an example but seuxal imagery comes through in so many more ways.

Sorry to hear that your favorite past time is getting shut down Sony_70.

No, but there's dozens of ways sexual repression exists. Shame in the human form, guilt about expressing one's sexuality, the hypocrisy in sex between the genders, etc. I could literally go on all day.

For every bit of repression, I can counter with expression. Examples of our society getting plenty enough fill of sex is demonstrated in the amount of magazines andwebsites, gentleman's clubs, amount of prescription drugs available and the amount of $ involved in the industry, way females are portrayed in different forms of media, and sex being used to sell things.

As for your example of shame in the human form, who's fault is that? Look at the images of the "ideal" male and female in the mdeia and compare thatto the relative population? What percentage is actually like that?

Keep in mind I'm not talking about attractiveness and beauty. Shame in the human form existed long before there was a hyper idealized image of beauty that most of us will never be able to attain. I'm talking centuries here and as to whose fault it is......well, I think you can probably guess where I'd say the blame belongs.

Well, there is a lot of violence these days, but the alternative can be bad to, if taken to the extreme.

Just look at. Family Friendly Gaming. Apparently Super Smash Brothers Brawl is too violent according to them, and Nintendo needs to let the series die.

I'm serious too. I know they're a Christian game site, but as a Christian myself, I find thier reviews to be way too extreme (I honestly go there once a week to get some laughs).

To them, games like Kid Icarus: Uprising aren't "Family Friendly", but Bird Mania 3D will be a legendary game, that hardcore gamers will talk about for years to come, lol.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Because people are not parading around naked or that fact that is illegal in public for the most part and instead are wearing clothes means that people are shameful of the human body?

People wanna do what they can't in real life. It's why we love welding swords, saving princesses, and catching pikachus.

@Ryno - I think it's more the repression of expressing ourselves in certain ways that @The_Fox feels is hypocritical when compared to our stance on violence than being physically unable to do so. I don't think he's stating that we all should be nudists or something to be defiant of societal norms, but that we should be able to express ourselves in whatever sexual manner we please rather than feeling shame for being "unorthodox" and conforming to a socially accepted manner of sexual expression.

Exactly.

Ryno: how many dirty words in the English language are regarding sex? Now, how many words about violence are taboo? Language is a reflection on culture and, yes, because of religion, sex enjoys the status of being the thing that we hide away from public, and violence is something we revel in.

Or how's about how sex shops are age restricted, while events based on abstract concepts of violence (most sports have their roots as military exercises and at core something like football is based on a violent notion) are open to 5 year olds looking for a wholesome family day.

Or think about this: lingerie football? All kinds of controversy there because it's selling sex or something something. Martial arts however are awesome fun. Hunting is a fun sport etc etc.

It's often subtle and we don't notice it, but we live in a culture that has little tolerance for sex, but violence is heroic.

I understand where you're going with this, and while I don't disagree, this thread is treading dangerous ground, so I'm going to end it here.

Everyone, if you don't like violence in your video games, vote with your wallet and don't play them. If there's not a market for it, no one will make the product.
