I have never fully enjoyed a Final Fantasy game. However I recently bought curtain call and it's sound track in amazing. Its like the put extra effort into every single piece of music that goes into this series....

Personally, I was never a big fan. I still don't understand why people think those songs are so good. So far, most of the samples I've heard were forgettable pieces remembered only by nostalgia. For example, One-Winged Angel is possibly the most annoying boss theme I have ever heard, but it received universal praise from fans of the franchise. I do want to mention that I am open to a change in opinion if I hear enough sons I like.

Xenoblade Chronicles' soundtrack, on the other hand....

Other than personal taste and some very vague descriptions, you'd probably need to look at music in general in some more advanced ways to get anything resembling an answer to this tbh.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

Yeah actually I have a similar opinion to this. I especially like how the music just has this "homey" quality to it that makes playing the game feel much more appealing. I guess that's a pretty vague description haha

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Because Nobuo Uematsu is an extremely talented musician.

See also: Yasunori Mitsuda, Koji Kondo, Yoko Shimomura, and Koichi Sugiyama.

I would almost go Devil's Advocate and say he isn't THAT great, but even his recent non-final-fantasy work is phenomenal (Lost Odyssey and Last Story).

Motoi Sakuraba has also done some genius work. A lot of his stuff is pretty typical JRPG-fare stuff, but every once and a while he pulls out pure genius like Baten Kaitos Origins, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Valkrie Profile.

This song from Baten Kaitos Origins is not only beautiful, it was apparently written by his wife and sung by his daughter:

Yeah, I was going to name Sakuraba too, but I find him pretty inconsistent. He has a few genuine masterpieces, but then a lot of entirely forgettable fluff.

One-Winged Angel is a pretty meh song, but Terra's theme from FF VI is a masterpiece, so simple yet so epic and full of emotions.

One-Wing Angel was great in Kingdom Hearts 1. Seriously, I don't care for the FF7 version, but this is distilled kick@$$, IMO:

Granted, I can't help but be reminded how many times Sepiroth kicked my @$$ every time I listen to it...

^ That version is considerably less annoying, but, imo, it's still not incredible. That intro still annoys me.
Still has nothing on the Xenoblade soundtrack....

What's annoying about the intro? I love that part, it's like something out of a horror movie, lets you know that you're going up against a horrible monster. At least this version doesn't overuse the synth like the Playstation version. That's what made that version annoying to me.
