It's just sort of a rule. When a thread's served it's purpose, it's left alone. It's ok to revive a thread that's maybe 1-2 months old, but 10 months is a little much.
to clarify, it's not a crime to revive old threads, but we do prefer you choose wisely. Obviously, chiming in with an opinion as to what someone should do when the moment already passed like seven months ago isn't a good thing, and same for reviving controversial topics that thankfully died out on their own (let sleeping dogs lie, plz), but if you've got something meaningful and insightful to add to an old topic, certainly, revive away. if there's a newer similar topic floating around, someone will just point you in the right direction to keep the conversation current, no big deal :3

No in all seriousness though why is it bad on this site when we are encouraged to see if a thread already exists before making a new one? Kind sounds like we are frowned upon no matter what then.
Moral of the story. It's ok to revive when adding to the original topic of discussion. It's considered not cool to revive old topics by responding to the last off topic comment or time sensative issues weeks/months later.
I revived a thread accidently by searching for it through the site then not reading the last post date. It's kinda like when I intentionally try to electrocute people and end up restarting their hearts.

I don't think it is bad...who ever said it was? I wasn't aware it was looked down upon. Well, screw you people, I'ma keep doin it! Seriously, I'd MUCH rather revive an old thread than start a completely new thread on the same topic. Then the people who already posted in the last topic, post again, and say the same thing...what's the point? Just revive that sucker, and let's continue if there's any more to add.

Yes, thank you. I get so annoyed with the new threads that retread exactly the same responses on a subject already discussed in detail a few months back. It's just laziness not to read through the original discussion and pick up from there; making a new thread means you don't care about the history of the discussion and opinions here on the matter, and just want to have a spotlight on your opinion.
