Topic: Why does "cartoony" have a negative connotation in games, TV, movies, etc?

In the west animation is almost exclusively marketed at children, so when something animated comes out that is for an older audience, people still assume its for children. Most animation studios have caught onto this and therefore we only see cartoons marketed toward children. It annoys me too. Seeing great shows like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes get cancelled and replaced with crap like Avengers Assemble really sucks (and don't get me started on what they've done to The Legend of Korra).

There are outlets for adult animation like Adult Swim and Comedy Central, but most Adult cartoons these days tend to be tastless shock humor IMO though.
