But I'm just like

Nintendo is overrated, lost their quality ever since the GCN days, never does anything new...and...kiddie games....or, something...

Yeah, this is the best explanation, assuming this is a thing. I don't think any reasonable person wants Nintendo gone, but I do believe lots of people are dumb and this is part of it.

I mean, look at what EA or Ubisoft pull and yet people are constantly like "oh god, I hope Nintendo does all this stuff like REAL game companies do" and I'm like **** off. Considering how the biggest games of the year for multi-platform titles have been lies or insulting (or for that matter, what was supposed to be one of their few saving graces for 3rd party software with Sonic Boom), I root for Nintendo. I always do it seems but this is no longer about preferences or console wars. This is about Nintendo having nothing to do with the worst parts of AAA gaming, and while I don't blame these issues on Sony and Microsoft, their biggest titles are not their own titles. They are 3rd party titles that seem to care less and less about respecting gamers or anyone or anything, and anything that's away from that deserves to win the console war just to make a point.

Agreed 100%. EA has released numerous games that have had abysmal launches(Battlefield and Sim City the most notable), Sony still hasn't fixed DriveClub's mess, AC Unity has the weirdest glitches ever and The Master Chief Collection's servers didn't work until just the other day. Meanwhile Nintendo's heavy-hitters like MK8, Smash and Pokemon's launches are darn near perfect but Nintendo needs to be like the other guys. LMAO.

"It's a huge purchase, unless you're Disney"

Lolwut? Does the writer think the Pixar/Marvel/Lucasfilm acquisitions happened in a day? Paying more than all of them combined just for Nintendo's IPs is stupid beyond all belief and is going to make a serious dent on Disney's pockets regardless of what the writer thinks.

Nintendo doesn't follow the hive mind but they're current console is a half baled iPad attached to a 360, they just put out two days ago a half assed toy to life product, and one of their big products is going to be a sleep tracker with out the fitbit.

But they don't follow trends.......Okkkkkkkaaaayyyyyy.....

lol everything you just wrote is wrong. i think it's funny how folks like you continue to argue with 360 wiiu comparisons. the wiiu is far more powerful than the 360. but hey your just here to pick a fight right?

Kids these days think they are being tough and manly by playing COD and other messes of violence, cussing and nudity. They shun anything "Kiddy (IE not hyper-masculine power fantasies)" like Nintendo. I could go on a long rant on this, but it would be a very long rant.

Agree with the post above.....but for more mature gamers, for better or for worse, Nintendo is that one company that refuses to grow up with them and adapt to the older demographic.....Microsoft, Sony, and SEGA were more than happy to oblige, but Nintendo has kept it's identity largely intact. That's both a bad and good thing IMO.

Also with the Wii, it kinda plays into the present situation.....Nintendo has always had somewhat of a kiddie stereotype, to various degrees pending the timeframe.....but the Wii was that cheap, not powerful, casual fun console that was made just as much for your uninterested in gaming sister as it was for you.......the fact that the Wii arguably went from the hottest thing in town to dust collector post 2010 doesn't help.

People using the terminology 'real gaming'.

Get over yourselves. Thats PC typed elitism right there.

The media might be so harsh to them because Nintendo is doing directs; replacing the role of 3rd-party journalism with more direct, consumer-friendly trends. They are getting paid up the wazoo to endorse Sony and Xbox; even though they are making fair less money.

Most games people state as "Mature" I think are completely immature. (I would have liked them at the point in my life when I loved stuff like Duke Nukem 3D).

What I would consider mature would be something showing the other side. Say a COD where you are the Taliban. (With the goal to just show their point of view as much as possible - assuming with all the facts the player will see things as they truly are).

This.
'real' gaming will die with them....and instead, the sheeple will continue to create westernized tutorial riddled, save points every 5 minutes, hand holding a plenty' cinematic overly violent scripted interactive movies that any blind folded 5 year old could beat in their sleep.

It's funny. I look at the PS4 and Xbox One and the majority of titles on both systems seem like they were designed for 14 year olds in mind...the same 14 year olds that feel the need to validate their manhood behind a videogame. THEY are the core audience that buys COD for ex. The games that I'm interested in on the PS4 aren't even exclusive, they're already out or coming out for the PS3 and XBOX 360. ....Aside from Silent Hills.

Saying "without Nintendo gaming is dead" is overstatement, however platformer genre could pretty much die without them. Also I don't know what is wrong with games being designed for 14 years old. I mean, Nintendo games are designed for much lower age group.

I actually love violent games, but I don't want Nintendo to go into this direction, because for every GoW3 gruesome kill or decapitation in Shadow of Mordor, I need some happy, upbeat and colorful games, like what WiiU has under it's sleeve. Also saying "handholding everywhere, endless tutorials" is little hypocritical, because Nintendo is guilty of this (TLoZ). Except shooters, I can't remember that many games full of tutorials, and even so, you can turn them off.

I don't know, though, but I don't get this

when somebody can't even go from mortal kombat to Mario kart without worrying about their testosterone dropping.

And then you go with this

I always get this teeny feeling of dread, this disheartened feeling whenever I go to best buy(EB Games, whatever) to buy Nintendo products. I always have this feeling that I'm going to get the 'look', or questioned WHY I'm buying Wii U, Wii or 3DS games. there was even one guy who sounded like a complete tool who said, "Are you sure you want to invest in console(Wii U) that may not be around for much longer?".

So you feel ashamed of buying it in the store and go for Amazon? Kinda like they can't work out CoD and MK playing together?
Think for yourself and don't let people take ouy enjoyment from something you like.

Wow, another one of those threads. A lot of the commentary here just goes to show, that people really are great at rationalizing stuff, and that goes for all the 'sides'.
Anyways, I think many self-appointed "gamers", may feel threatened by Nintendo, because they still do their own thing, and are - at times - successful in doing so. I think it's basically the same issue as with that whole Gamergate mess. Most of the people who actually might want do see Nintendo go under (and I think those are rather rare), are, in my estimation, just victims of their own lack of self-esteem and insecurity. Nintendo making something like Captain Toad ... and giving videogames a friendly somewhat childlike face, esp. if they do it successfully, threatens their selfimage. They don't want to be associated with Mario and so on and so forth, if they 'out' themselves as gamers. It's sad, no two ways about it, but I think it also true, at least for some.

Now having said that, I also think some of the criticism is very well justified. One aspect Nintendo is certainly coming up short, is pushing the framework of their games, e.g. in terms of storytelling. For all the things Nintendo does great, there also those they don't do great. Story telling is just one aspect, but I think it's an important one. Nintendo should try to improve in this area. It's not like Mario or Zelda NEEDS a great story, great dialogue and so on, but who says they couldn't profit of it.
I don't want Nintendo to die, not at all, but I want them to try new things (by their own standarts). Look how great HD turned out for games like MK or SSB or others. They developed their own visual style of HD graphics, and looking at Captain Toad, to go full circle here, that is a good thing, but we could have had that like 10 years ago ... seems like wasted time to me. I want them to try harder to incorparte compelling stories into their games, and for some reason only outside pressure seems to achieve anything with them, in that respect a lot of that hate might actually turn out to be a good thing in the end! I'd love the irony in that!
